LIFE-SAVING DEED LANDS PAROLEE IN JAIL ON GUN CHARGE
A man police credited with having saved the lives of four people and
himself during a home invasion robbery has been thrown into jail for
handling the robber's gun -- a violation of his parole.
Detrick Washington, 25, took the gun when one of the two would-be robbers
set it down Tuesday night in Washington's loft apartment in San Francisco's
South of Market neighborhood. Both men who attempted the robbery were shot
to death. One was armed with a machete and had gashed the victims.
Parole officials were supervising Washington for a drug conviction and
arrested him Wednesday, saying he must stay in jail until next week while
they do their own investigation.
