FATAL GAME OF CHANCE

The recent spate of tragic deaths caused by illegal drugs was
alarming, but it is difficult to have much sympathy for the victims.
What they did was tantamount to playing Russian roulette.

They committed a crime by buying and using drugs and they caused
emergency facilities to have to be used to treat the situations they
created.

Any surviving victim should be arrested for the crime and made to pay
restitution for emergency and health-care costs. That's what we do
with rescues made necessary by a crisis of their own making, such as
the rescue of mountain climbers.

I am fed up with our tax money being used for emergency situations
created unnecessarily or voluntarily. If these people have enough
money to keep buying illegal drugs, they should be required to take
care of themselves.
