DRUG RAID NETS STOLEN POLICE GUN

A routine drug investigation has turned into a probe of an officer's stolen
handgun after a police raid in a South Toledo home turned up $30,725 in
cash and a stolen police-issued 9-millimeter Sig Sauer handgun,
investigators said.

It does not appear the police officer, whose gun apparently was taken from
his home, did anything improper. It also does not appear he has any direct
links to the home that was raided, 4123 Hill Ave., or to its occupants,
vice Lt. Dan Schultz said.

The veteran street officer reported his weapon stolen from his home more
than a week ago, the lieutenant said.

No one has been charged in the theft.

The raid Wednesday afternoon was based on several weeks of investigation
into illegal drug trafficking. Officers seized a small amount of suspected
marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police made no arrests, but charges are pending, Capt. Don Kenney said.

No one in the home claimed the cash, which may mean the police department
can seize it - through court orders - for its law enforcement trust fund,
authorities said.
