POL POT BUSTED FOR LIGHTING UP

August 25, 2001 -- The Libertarian Party candidate for Manhattan borough
president - running on a platform to legalize cannabis - has been arrested
for smoking the banned weed on an East Village street.

Scott Jeffrey, 33, was nabbed Thursday night at 9:45 p.m. after he left a
restaurant at East Sixth Street and First Avenue and lit up a joint, police
said.

Jeffrey, a Princeton graduate and software developer, is a longtime
marijuana activist. "Jeffrey never forgot his roots and never sold out to
corporate America," he says on his campaign Web site.
