KAZAKH SPECIAL SERVICES DISCUSS DRUG SMUGGLING WITH OFFICIALS FROM EUROPEAN
UNION

ALMA-ATA The EU experts on fighting against drug smuggling in Central
Asian states meet in Alma-Ata with officials from law enforcement agencies
of Kazakhstan. CNA was informed in Alma-Ata office of the European Union
that the meeting is organized for officials of special services only, which
control illegal trafficking of drugs via the Alma-Ata airport.

Officials from Police department of Austria and Customs Committee of
Federal Republic of Germany will discuss with Kazakh colleagues issues on
inter-department cooperation aimed at strengthening the control over
smuggling of drugs through the airport and creation of join groups.

The EU's regional office on combat with drug trafficking in states of
Central Asia was formed the February for implementation of international
program, covering five states and foreseeing creation of an information net
of drug smuggling via the Central Asian states. Joint measures on
preventing drug trafficking via international airports, sea ports and
railways are to be undertaken in the future.

Such meetings will be as well held from August 27 - 29 in Kyrgyzstan and in
Uzbekistan from September 3 - 5.
