EX-COP GETS 13 YEARS FOR ON-DUTY CRIME

A federal judge sentenced a tearful former police officer to 13 years in
prison Monday for using his gun and badge to rob drug dealers and plotting
to kill a detective.

The former officer, Jamil Jordan, told Brooklyn Federal Court Judge
Frederic Block that he was sorry for his crimes and had betrayed his
family, friends and the community.

"I'm disgraced. I can't blame anyone but myself," Jordan said. "I ask
myself countless times each day "Why?" The truth is, there's no answer."

Jordan, 28, pleaded guilty in March to charges that he and his partner,
Anthony Trotman, were involved with a violent robbery crew headed by
Jordan's childhood friend, Vere Padmore. Jordan also admitted he and
Trotman had conspired to kill a detective.

Prosecutors charged that Jordan and Trotman had once stopped a drug dealer
in the Bronx at gunpoint, handcuffing him while they searched his car for
money. On another occasion, the two officers reportedly pulled over a drug
dealer and took nearly $8.000 in cash.

The judge issued the maximum penalty allowed under the plea agreement.
