FUTILE DRUG POLICIES
David Broder's Aug. 26 column, headlined "Hutchison is handed a hot
potato known as the drug war," was as rational an argument as I have
heard for re-examination of our drug war policies. This house of cards
should have fallen years ago, but it has been propped up by
propaganda, lies, ignorance and fear.
Politicians have told parents for years that they are fighting this
war for "our kids." This is hard to believe when they are putting so
many of "our kids" in prison. The ones that are not in prison say that
they can get drugs more easily than alcohol. "Our kids" cannot stand
much more of this kind of help.
