POLICE GET $39K FROM DRUG STING

Toledo police received about $39,000 yesterday that represents the
department's share of assets forfeited after a yearlong narcotics
investigation that ended in December.

Thirty-five people were arrested Dec. 7 after the investigation, which
employed wiretaps and surveillance and focused on a group importing cocaine
from Texas and Mexico.

Though other agencies were involved in the investigation, Toledo police
received 80 percent of the cash seized because of an arrangement with the FBI.

The remaining 20 percent will be used for administrative costs from the
case, Carl Spicocchi, agent in charge of the Toledo FBI office, said.

In addition to narcotics and weapons, seven vehicles were seized at the
homes of those arrested, authorities said.
