COLOMBIA: COCAINE TRAFFICKERS CAUGHT
The police, assisted by American drug agents, smashed a drug- trafficking
ring and arrested 16 people accused of shipping $300 million worth of
cocaine per month to the United States, officials said. After raids in six
Colombian cities, including the capital, Bogota, the police said the ring
brought unrefined cocaine from neighboring Peru through Ecuador. Once the
cocaine was in Colombia, it was processed and shipped it to the United
States, at a rate of about 10 tons a month.
