A READER'S UNREASONING BIAS

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I refer to L. Duperrouzel's letter appearing in your issue of August 20,
2001 in which he makes the blanket claim that (the use of) "ganja makes you
stupid, careless, lazy and totally destroys any feelings of responsibility
or personal obligation to yourself or anyone else". That, of course, is
stuff and nonsense, and is typical of the unreasoning bias prevalent in
some sections of the society.

I hold no brief for ganja users, and I have no doubt that ganja usage to
excess is harmful and bad. But, that is also true of even the most useful
of things.

Mr. Duperrouzel may be surprised, on a second reading of his Bible, to find
Solomon advising against the eating of too much honey.

I am, etc.,
