SUBSTANCE ABUSE MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLE

Federally funded mini-grants of up to $2,000 are available to
community-based organizations for substance abuse prevention programs in
West Virginia.

The mini-grants can be used to initiate a new program or add to an existing
program. Program activities must be directed at the primary prevention of
alcohol, tobacco or other drug abuse. Organizations applying must include
representation from at least five agencies or organizations or be a
citizens group, such as a tenants' association.

Applications for the mini-grants are available on the WVPRC Web site at
www.prevnet.org/cdssap or by contacting a local Community Development
Specialist for Substance Abuse with contact information also available on
the WVPRC Web site.

Application deadline is Dec. 1. Awards will be announced Jan. 15, 2002.

Funds for the mini-grants are from the Federal Block Grant for the
Prevention and Treatment of Substance Abuse through the West Virginia
Department of Health and Human Resources' Division on Alcoholism and Drug
Abuse and the West Virginia Prevention Resource Program.
