MARIJUANA DISPUTE LEADS TO SHOOTING

A 22-year-old Piercy man was in stable condition after being shot
three times during a dispute over marijuana, authorities said Monday.

Darrel Thomas Linder and a friend had gone to a residence on Ebert
Lane in Piercy to confront his former roommate and marijuana business
partner, Mendocino County Sheriff's Capt. Kevin Broin said.

The confrontation turned physical and Linder was shot, Broin said.

The name of the suspected shooter, who fled, is not being released
because deputies have not been able to confirm what occurred, he said.

"The victim was injured fairly badly, so he's not talking," Broin
said. "Some other witnesses aren't being overly cooperative."

Broin said he was confident the shooting suspect will be positively identified.

Four people were at the Ebert Lane residence Saturday when the
shooting took place, he said.

After Linder was shot, his friend took him to the Piercy fire
station. From there he was airlifted to a hospital.

Broin said the name of the hospital is not being released for
Linder's protection.

The suspect and victim are believed to have been involved in an
illegal marijuana business, Broin said.
