DRUG REHABILITATION SET TO FEATURE IN AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY LIBS

The ACT Liberal Party will release its policy on health today with an
emphasis on drug rehabilitation.

Chief Minister Gary Humphries, says a significant financial investment will
be made to programs designed to reduce drug addiction, including a
plebiscite to gauge community opinion on the establishment of a heroin
trial and injecting room.

Mr Humphries says the latest public opinion poll shows Canberrans are split
on drug related issues.

"That poll suggests to me pretty clearly that the community is ready to
make a decision," he said.

"It's ready to make judgment on the ideas which have been around for a
number of years now and if it doesn't provide a signal to the next
government of this Territory as to how we go ahead to develop or not
develop those ideas," Mr Humphries said.
