PULVERIZE THE POPPIES
Afghanistan is the origin of about 70 percent of the world's opium supply,
from Afghan poppies. Destruction of these crops would deny the Taliban a
major source of income. There would be little or no loss of human life.
W. HOWARD MORRISON, Jamestown
Editor's note: Much Afghan opium comes from the territory controlled by the
Northern Alliance, which is fighting the Taliban.
