'VICTIMLESS' CRIMES PROVE TO BE HARMFUL IN MANY WAYS

The Oct. 8 "In My Opinion" column deals with decriminalizing victimless
crimes. The writer specifically mentioned drug dealers and users,
prostitutes and their clients and gambling. He needs to be educated on the
meaning of victimless crimes.

Drug dealers and their customers certainly create victims from the
vandalism, thefts and murders committed in order to obtain these drugs. And
prostitutes are an abomination, spreading venereal disease and AIDS, for
which there is no cure.

Gambling, sanctioned or non-sanctioned, has claimed hundreds of victims
with bankruptcy, broken homes and loss of self-respect. I don't call that
victimless.

We cannot make it easy to participate in these vices. We do not need fewer
laws. We need our laws to be obeyed.
