Noah actually on that second thought counter might not be the greatest idea because then youre running an extra UPDATE query on your total post table every time someone posts. When lotsa people are on the site this could mean multi posts per second... and considering many users online generate all bunch of other requests, youre risking a bottleneck. on the other hand if you just crontab it at 10min, its one counte+update per 10 mins, which means a far more balanced updating, when not alot of people are online its wasted query time yes, but its also not gonna be felt cuz nobody is using your cpu. and when lotsa people are posting itd ease up on the system alot.

this has nothing to do with being or not being mad. i wasnt even pissed when i made that comment, just serious. this is a discussion of professionals and little pesky kids that have no idea what we're talking about should stay at the sandbox.
