Melanie Durant actually made a point to say she was not from Quebec even though her name was french. Hey Melanie newsflash i dont give a fuck.

I was very excited to see Kelis, mainly because it was a random excursion to see someone i usually wouldn't take the effort to go see. Walking up to the club, the line up consists of 96% white french people who look liked they all belong at Level. I garantee 99% of the people going to see the show do not know another song by Kelis other than her milkshake song. If the show would have been held maybe at cabaret or evel club soda, it might have added to the atmosphere, unlike Laboom where it devoured every and anything that could have been deemed somewhat hip hop.

Melanie Durant walked on stage at about 12am. Her mc and dj were decent, but she was rather dry and anticlimactic. Every one of her songs sounded the same, and her voice that probably could have shown some real strength was murdered by the horrible sound system. At one point the MC ask if anyone here knew what turntablism was, Jess and I laughed at the question. But amongst the mass of naive people who were there to get booty and not listen to music had not the slightest clue what turntablism was. The mc had to explain it. Yes folks HE HAD TO EXPLAIN WTF TURNTABLISM WAS. Melanie Durant also had two dancers on stage with her and they really could bust a move, they did distract me from watching the half clad hoes trying to shake their tits to get free drinks. Her performance was less than adequate.

Fourty minutes later of audio punishment from dj andré and his wack ass no mixing train wrecking track selection was next.

Finally Kelis comes on with her band (yes a band, so i was ready for a wonderful soulful hip hop act) what i didn't anticipate was Kelis on stage with her lyrics. She explained after the second song she didn't have enough time to practice, so she was singing with her lyrics. What performer does that? Right at that moment i lost 98% of my respect and wanted to leave right away. We listened to five more song of unmotivated bass consumed music. I was not impressed what so ever. Honestly I have seen 15-year-old garage bands with more stage performance than Kelis had.

All in all, i would rather amputate my pinky finger à la four rooms than endure 3 and half hours of Laboom featuring Kelis again.

Melanie Durant is not from quebec. She is english. She wasnt very good either. But i dont dig the rnb. check my full review in the review thread, its not pretty.
