GOONIES ANY1 ???

which, aherm, leeds me to a funny story from my past... I think on my 4th or 5th bday party, my dad went out and rented goonies for me and my friends, it had just come out on vhs. Only, my dad didnt read the box he picked up very carefully, and he actually brought home a diferent movie with a similar title...

Several minutes into the movie, when this nakid women was strapped to a large stone and stabbed several times in the chest with a ritual devil knife and my friend kenny started crying and the rest of the kids were super creeped out, my dad checked the rental box and realized that he had rented goolies by accident!!!

One of the best bday bloopers evah!

In a similar vain to the current topic being debated:

... At the end of WWII, unbeknownst to most at the time, the Russian troops and legion were the first to be let into the falling German home land, leading the final attack. Though speculation at the time was that they were let in to plunder German resources as a payback for economic damages inflicted throughout the war(not to mention the high loss of civilians), the true reason the allies let the Russians in first was to lead the rape train. After all the atrocities reported to have been committed on Russian soil, it was deemed a deserved payback, so that when the war was almost done, they were let in first to lead the rapes... Women, girls even children, trying to ultimately breed the greatest insult straight into the German empire, the ultimate imprint of a true loss, the fruits of war, children of mixed decent, no longer pure in German heritage or genetics ...

I cannot resist....

Where do I start... Ok, for the last couple of years, I've seldom attended or played underground events that could be considered "rave" style, but I have kept in touch through people who are still regularly attending them and of course this site, and from what I gather, things are looking pretty shattered/tattered. Its not that people didn’t used to complain, or that there was tons more "unity" a decade ago, but the times have changed. I think there is much to be said about paying homage to the roots of a scene, but mummifyin it or zombiefying it is not keeping it alive, its killing it painfully and without any real respect...

I think people should just move on, call this the electronic music scene, call all night parties "all night parties" and party-goers tell organizers what you REALLY want, rather than just complaining about what you don’t. Maybe its time for a feedback section or suggestion box section for party-goers to communicate needs and wants to party organizers? I find the irony of the modern electronic scene pretty funny, in the sense that thanks to the interweb and other newer technology (better/smaller sound lighting equipment, laptop sets etc), party’s should be solid and off the hook, yet things are worse off in the way of promotion, organization and general quality. You would think after all of the years of experience in Montreal, that the electronic music scene would be light years ahead, but it would seem that the complete opposite has occurred.

What I guess I’m trying to say here is I think there are some great people on this board who are still involved in the scene who devote productive time and energy to it, which means there is still hope. I think its time for some re-invention, its time for the scene to EVOLVE, for change, some new direction. I cant imagine that people are as in to the “rave” concept as they used to be, its old and used; its basically a dead bloated, fly infested hooker at this point, and who on earth would want to repeatedly hit that? (my apologies to those who missed the boat, but it’s the awful truth)

Final Constructive Points:

-1hr Dj sets = not long enough for the majority of djs and even most crowds, try to go 1.5hrs or best possible 2hrs, djs will be happy and so will the crowd, it’s a win-win

-Dj’s who can’t mix = can ruin a party, regardless if they are your friends or not (or if they are willing to play for free). Organizers, if you aren’t sure if you should book them, ask for a demo, that method has worked for the past 30 odd years of dj’ing, I’m pretty sure its still a valid method of scouting talent. It doesn’t matter if it’s a loft party or a party at a venue, good music mixed well makes the event, period. (and Im not suggesting they give up, I’m saying keep practicing just don’t aim too high too soon, try to be patient and realistic)

-quality over quantity = it should never be “ how many dj’s can I book for one event ?”, it should be “ what kind of dj’s do I want and how many can I have to make it work?” And you have an urge to book a large number, try doing something creative like a mad-collab or an all night versus…

-Quality = I think it is not said enough, we here in Montreal are blessed with a rather large cornucopia of SERIOUSLY TALENTED PRODUCERS AND DJ’S, there is no reason to book anything but the best, we have an EXTREMELY high talent pool with a virtual standard of excellence to uphold. I can say with confidence and integrity from both local and traveling experience that our city has some of the best dj’s and producers in North America and even parts of Europe. All this being said, local organizers and promoters have little to NO excuses for crap acts… (this truth cannot be denied)

Ufot-K, im tired now

Hello party people!

It has almost been 2 years since our incredible event at Circus. We felt it was time to give you guys another one!

This time, it also happens to be my birthday too! Woohoo!!! I haven't celebrated it in like 3-4 years so this should be REALLY fun!

The event will be electro / minimal tech.

I have a guest list and tickets for everyone that is interested! Just email me threw the forums! This means, entrance will only cost 15$ for laddies and 20$ for guys rather than the 30-35$ at the door.

I actually played a silent party about 4 years ago... it was an amazing experience, easily one of the koolest sets I`ve ever played, dove into trip hop, experimental, breakz, houze... was super kool, no one said a word the entire nite, some people dance, some people painted, there were all kinds of recognized hand gestures by the end of the nite, was really an amazing party...
