Datura:

Datura contains the alkaloids scopolamine and atropine and has been used in some cultures as a poison and hallucinogen.[1]

The dose-response curve for the combination of alkaloids is very[citation needed] steep, so people who consume datura can easily take a potentially fatal overdose, hence its use as a poison. Due to the potent combination of anticholinergic substances it contains, Datura intoxication typically produces effects similar to that of an anticholinergic delirium: a complete inability to differentiate reality from fantasy (frank delirium, as contrasted to hallucination); hyperthermia; tachycardia; bizarre, inexplicable, and possibly violent behavior; and severe mydriasis with resultant painful photophobia that can last several days. Pronounced amnesia is another commonly reported effect.

According to the drug information site Erowid, no other substance has received as many "Train Wreck" severely negative experience reports as has Datura[3], noting that "the overwhelming majority of those who describe to us their use of Datura (and to a lesser extent, Belladonna, Brugmansia and Brunfelsia) find their experiences extremely mentally and physically unpleasant and not infrequently physically dangerous."

Single feed baits are chemicals sufficiently dangerous that the first dose is sufficient to kill.

With regards to dj "union", I have at times in the past, and still to this day consider the merrits of starting a booking agency, to represent local dj's and live acts... I definitely think that a semi-to-full professional agency here in Montreal would tighten a loose ship, and force a lot of clubs and organizers and promoters to take our local acts more seriously and pay them their desired/required fees... the bennefits could range from general meetings with on hand business accountants, online server space for mixes bios etc, gig contracts (actual binding documents, signed by organizers and djs), workshops for production/mixing/mastering, vynil or digital music meets or swaps, collabs, showcase shows... I believe that if more dj's worked together in this city, things would be a lot more solid, and it would be a win-win... but, it is a ton of effort and upkeep, and Ive never been convinced that it would reach enough support or be self sufficient enough to actually function...

Personally, from my experience as a promotor, bringing people to the event was my JOB, and if the dj`s I chose to book helped in the cause, then awesome, but that was not MY motivation for booking them, nor was I counting on their draw, as a promotor, our crew brought the people and big-up`d every dj to extreme hype, both those known and unknown...

In my opinnion, booking a dj based only on their draw power is a dangerous game, a game which has burned a lot of promoters and organizers...

IMHO there is a definite unbalance in the local dj community as far as payment is concerned. Most of the time, from experience both direct and through friends, that dj`s in general are underpaid. I think that a dj's "profile" does have a baring on their desired fee, however, it is the artist who chooses what that fee is, not the promoter. I think that bargaining can be done most of the time, but payment is essential. I think that some dj's are overpaid, but I also think that some dj'd underpaid and even undervalued.

I think depending on the type of gig, standards for payment can vary, as in, if I play a bar or a club, I always expect a certain range. And if I play at a rave or private party, the range is different. Personally I also apply different standards for different types of events, corporate fees are always much larger than public or private ones, but then again those fees can vary depending on the size of the event as well. I think the most important thing to establish is what that range is and have the promoter or organizer follow through with it.

Btw, I like the fact that this topic was brought up... I have felt that a lot of promoters and organizers have had a number of misconceptions for years now, and occasionally its nice to clear the air and burry myths. The truth is simple: records don’t buy themselves, nor does equipment, in fact both require large sums of money with a continual residual investment by said artist. Though it’s easy to share music these days, there are still such things as exclusive plates or tunes, and that definitely affects an artist pricing (not to mention unreleased production). Finally, the dedication, time, stamina, research and general practice for a professional dj should not be taken lightly or under appreciated, it is an art form that is still in constant flux, but it isn’t usually that difficult to separate the amateurs from the pros...
