LONDON -- (Sunday Times) Good news to beer guzzlers -- there is no link between beer drinking and a beer belly, new research shows.

What's more, the research conducted at the University College of London reveals women who drink beer tend to weigh less, not more than non-drinkers.

The research team led by Martin Bobak wanted to settle the question of whether beer led to an increase in weight. Some studies supported the notion while others did not.

The team used data based in the Czech Republic, which boasts of the highest per capita beer consumption in the world. The data included 891 men and 1,098 women aged 25-64 who were either non-drinkers or drank exclusively beer and compared their body mass index and waist-hip ratio, which measures the so called "beer belly."

The researchers found that when corrected for factors such as smoking, there was no significant link between beer drinking and a beer belly -- and women who drank beer tended to weigh less, rather than more, than those who did not.

Reporting in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the team concludes: "It is unlikely that beer intake is associated with a largely increased waist-hip ratio or body mass index . . . the association between beer and obesity, if it exists, is probably weak."

According to Bobak, beer may not be the real culprit in a beer belly but beer drinking is linked to other aspects of diet and lifestyle that may cause a beer belly.

Bobak admits to drinking the odd beer himself, and sees no reason why Czech beer should be any different in its effect from the beers of other countries.

"The Czechs brew excellent beer but it has the same calorie content, and the same amounts of sugar and alcohol as British beer. Nutritionally, they are very similar," Bobak said.

Hey guys, my friend has to get a short Techno related survey done by I dunno how many Techno enthusiasts.....since she's not either in the scene or knows anyone else who could help her out with that project, I offered to get answers for her....so here it is...please answer seriously, even though you might find some of these questions retarded...

Now, if you don't want your answers to be read by others on this board, just send me your answers to schranzist@hotmail.com it's only 6 questions but it's highly appreciated :)

P.S.: Please remember that in this survey, Techno is used in the specific sense of the word and not in the general sense....i.e.:Techno=Techno and not "Electronica".

Peace.

Short Techno Survey

1. What's the first image that comes to mind when you think of Techno?

2. What colours do you associate most with this music?

3. Who doyou think is Techno's main crowd?

4. Is Techno associated with an era, a country, a culture? If yes, which?

5. Does it contain a message or communicate in any way?

6. Is it limited to a certain age group. etnic group or gender?

^^^^cause neither do you :)

....like why be pretencious when you are at peace with yourself, there is no reason to prove yourself to others right?! Plus, I would find myself so annoying to be like "Pfff you can't talk to me like that....oh yeah?! well I got a 9inches long..." hehehe and that's just ridiculous because I don't see the point of always competing with others.....maybe I'm too lazy to care because competing 24/7/365 like that demands way too much effort...for what?....self-esteem? hahaha ok enough with my speech....

yeah I look more for comments if anything but I don't expect that many of them since I know there aren't that many Tech fans on this site and I know it's hard to comment on something you're not even willing to listen to....or it's just hard to review.....I can't write a review for shit and what's ironic is that I tried writting reviews just last week.....I don't get the point of plays because it sorta gives the impression of rankings with how the most hits push you closer to the top of the page....I really don't see a point of "competing" when there are so many styles to listen to....I can't compare house with HHC or Hardcore with [ DnB....com ] mendez?

A shepherd was herding his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Prada suit, Gucci shoes, Dior sunglasses and D+G tie, leans out the window and asks the shepherd: "If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?"

The shepherd looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing flock and calmly answers: "Sure.
Why not?" The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his AT&T cell phone, surfs to a NASA page on the internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.
Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of complex formulae.

He uploads all of this data via an email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-colour, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturised HP LaserJet printer, turns to the shepherd and says: "You have exactly 1,586 sheep".

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my sheep," says the shepherd. He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the boot of his car. Then the shepherd says to the young man: "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my sheep?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says: "Okay, why not?".

"You're a consultant," says the shepherd.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie. "But how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required," answers the shepherd. "You showed up here even though nobody called you, you want to get paid for an answer I already knew to a question I never asked, and you know fuck-all about my business.

"Now give me back my dog."

well when it comes to the Techno scene (of course I don't mean Techno in the general sense but the specific style), the scene is pretty much in the after-hours.

The only 2 to play Techno are Aria [ www.aria-nightclub.com ] and Circus, which by the way is the newest after in town, [ www.circusafterhours.com ]

Now there is for the more minimal and glitch side of Techno, a festival called MUTEK [ www.mutek.ca ] and the Société Des Arts Technologiques, which everyone just calls the SAT, a space that holds quite a few events (not only in Techno, mind you but more in the artsy and eclectic vibe) [ www.sat.qc.ca ]
There's also the Montréal Élétronique Groove [ www.megmontreal.com ] but I personaly aint a big fan of it....but whatever, it's here also :)

I know there is more than just that in town but it's pretty much what comes to mind right now.

There is always the odd party here and there and I'm part of a production crew that pushes Techno mainly but has colaborated with others as well. [ www.level4productions.com ] but I'm the "kid" of the gang so I dunno much about organising :b...Steve Lalla's the main man for that tek@level4productions.com

Now, about me....well there is a page I got up on a site called ZED so take a look...or a listen, I should say :)
[ zed.cbc.ca ]
you can find tracks that I produced on that page and download 3 mixes of mine as well.....I play under the monicker of "Toltech" but I'm sure you'd figure that one out pretty quickly by checking that page hehe
