I might just do that, I was actually thinking about the booze part yesterday and sharing whatever profits I made.

Hmmmm that cab thing is something I hadnt thought of... I'm throwing a free loft party for my b-day and have a few DJs whom agreed to play for free. I will obviously have quite a bit of booze and weed for em but totally didnt think that if I were a DJ there's no way I'd drag my vinyl/equipment in the metro. I'll make sure to either have cab money or friends to lift them.

I'm no promoter and it will be a loft party which I wont profit from at all, in fact I will be losing quite a bit of money. But I do want my DJs whom are basically doing it for fun or the mere fact that it's my b-day to feel appreciated.

Back in the day, we'd go to parties for certain artists, but there was also a few promoters who's parties were ALWAYS good, even if it was 100% locals it was packed. Why? Cuz the promoters were doing their jobs, PROMOTING. Not to mention the fact that people like Mini-Tank for example would spent a lot of time preparing decorations, making absolutely amazing creative flyers, and things were always smooth. It isnt just headliners that bring the money in,the promoters and locals do as well, there wouldnt be a party at all if you didnt have a efw locals to spin 6-8 hours of music, all you would have is a 1-2 hour show.

So, 23 or 24 of august, I think the 24 would be best. On a Sunday again, it really finishes off a week end well. Plus you're uber tired by the end of the day from being under the sun for so long. And we definitely need to bring more "7-Up" this time around :P

It really depends, bullshit promoters dont pay well or pay afterwards IF they can which utter shit. If I get to work and they tell me there's no work and I can go home, the government forces them to pay me 3 or 4 hours, I forget the exact ammount, but they are forced to pay.

Set DJ fees are a must, with at LEAST half in advance with a contract. If I were a DJ, even doing local stuff only I would require a contract for gigs. How many times did I hear DJs getting jack fuck all cuz the party got busted or w/e. There are way too many crap promoters out there to blindly trust any of them. Plus, business is business.

As for "outrageous fees", hey these people are taking a whole lot of their time to make this music, if they can proffit from what they do then more power to them. People who think they should do it "for the music" are completely delusional. It's not cuz you love what you do that you gotta be paid peanuts for it, hard work is hard work.

I think everyone enjoyed the video, most of the bad comments were pointed at Annie's singing. To each his own, it aint my thing really. Like I said earlier, I feel her music is made for 14-15 year old girls. When she repeats your "What happens in the barn stays in the barn" bit in french it just kills it.

I may not have met her in the best of circumstances either (at a party when my roommate opened up his new office), but the impression I got was that of a snob. Maybe in different circumstances I may feel differently, but that was my first impression. It seems she's around a lot of the people I know so I'm sure I'll get a chance for a second opinion.
