Depend vraiment du prof et du style d'ecole ... la moyenne que j'ai vu sur l'ile de Mtl varie entre 300 et 500 pour l'annee ! L'equipement si tu commences peux aller checher 100$ pour un uniforme, ptetre un 150-200$ de plus si t'as besoin de t'equiper en protections ou en armes (mais si tu vas avec un style chinois ou le capoera, t'as pas besoin de ca)

Lemme know if you start searching for a school seriously, I've done 8 different styles of martal arts in the past 12 years (although I've never went really far in one specific kind), so I know how to identify a good teacher when I see one :)

If you want something Fluid, Capoera or Chinese martial arts are the way to go ... Chinese martial arts (Kung-Fu, Wushu ...) are more deadly than Capoera though, in my opinion. Capoera seems way more fun though !Jumping around, spinning, kicking, jumping again ... :)

I did kick boxing a couple years back, and it IS the best work-out you can find ... *remembers the 8 pacs I used to have ... sigh*. Don't be affraid to swet or suffer though ! And if you're into the extreme ... there's a class of Water Kick Boxing at the UQAM ! I would cry if asked to do kicks for 30 minutes underwater but I guess I would never feel so in shape after a while !

Most opponents don't know what hit them before the 5th deadly blow :) Also quite easy to block and counter ! You have a lot of place for improvisation, which easily get the opponent unprepared.

Short blades gives you much more manoeuvarability, and are quite a strong advantage when you know how to come in close-combat range of the target. Even more when we're talking of curved blades, which are my favorites, since you can easily use them a reversed fashion to slash the ennemy in a range so close he can't even land a punch.
