No doubt afterhours do good stuff once in a while, attract lot of people, who have lots of fun in there, but to me, an afterhour is nothing more than a club that's open a bit later. I'm not usually bitching them, got a bit overzealous, but I sure wanted to imply that it has nothing to do with a rave. Crowd is different, music is different, the vibe is a lot different also ...

I like clubbing once in a while, but clubbing and raving are two different things, and going to afterhours is clubbing, and has nothing to do with raving. The whole point of this war is because those clubs see raves has competition. Techtonic had Techno and trance music ... got shut down by a guy who thought we were competing with his night. Don't get me wrong, I do like those kind of music, but it probably was one of the main reason the rave got shut down nonetheless. Even more, Techtonic was supposed to sell booze until 3, which until recently was unique to night clubs. It now brings people out of the clubs and bring them into raves, and club managers don't like that.

In my opinion, there would not be that much problems if the raves kept on raving, and the clubs kept on clubbing. Live and let live. You want to get drunk for a rave ? That's what clubs and pre-parties are made for. Want to dance all night to underground music ? Now that's what raves are made for !

When I say boycott their clubs, I mean that if you like raves better, let them know that raves and afterhours don't attract the same crowd by not going at their nights.

First above, I would start by boycotting the afterhours (I already do that since 2 years now). After all, we have to first show them that the true ravers don't go there anyway, and it's no use closing our raves since their nightclubs stinks and we won't go there even if there's only that shit to go around.

Then ... probably that having a couple really underground raves, in underground venues, would do the job and remove attention from us for a while.

Ever though of inserting an addon to be able to say how many people, not from the comunity, would be coming with you at an event ? We could see on the page something that looks like : 150 members and 230 invitees attending.

I do agree to this, and I do agree that police abuse does exists, but in that article, they speak of protestants that got beat up trying to prevent the police from arresting someone. If they did arrest that person for no good reason, they would have had to let him go anyway, and you would have been able to issue a complaint after.

They might or might not have been in the right to arrest that man, I won't add anything on that without knowing the police report, maybe he was insulting cops from the sidewalk, thus creating a threat that the pacific manifestation turns into a mob of troublemakers.

One thing is sure tough, they were in the right to take down any potential aggressor that tried to prevent them to do their job, and since they were largely outnumbered, they were in the right to use physical force to do so. It's only self-defense, men or women, women day or not.

In replys to DJneoform, if a cop would threaten my life, I would also be defending myself, but if they did so because I perpetrated an act that required them to threaten me ... I would defend myself, but not take them responsible for the way they acted.

Those hippies will always make me laugh ... they kick a dog chewing it's bone and then complain that the dog bites them back. Brilliant ...

Here is the best tip you'll ever have not to get beat up by cops : Don't friggin' provocate them ! Blocking the streets is already provocation enough, rushing after cops that are aresting someone, when they are surrounded by hundreds of potential aggressors, is just plain stupid. What did you expect ? They did their job and protected themselves.

When surounded by 200 aggressive people, you don't take the time to discuss, you take them down fast, finish your job, and just take off.

to those who already got beaten down in a manifestation: take responsibility for your actions for once, and stop complaining.

NASA Unveils Global Exploration Strategy and Lunar Architecture

HOUSTON – NASA on Monday unveiled the initial elements of the Global Exploration Strategy and a proposed U.S. lunar architecture, two critical tools for achieving the nation's vision of returning humans to the moon.

NASA Deputy Administrator Shana Dale, who is guiding the long-term strategy development effort among 14 of the world's space agencies, said, "This strategy will enable interested nations to leverage their capabilities and financial and technical contributions, making optimum use of globally available knowledge and resources to help energize a coordinated effort that will propel us into this new age of discovery and exploration."

The Global Exploration Strategy focuses on two overarching issues: Why we are returning to the moon and what we plan to do when we get there. The strategy includes a comprehensive set of the reasons for embarking upon human and robotic exploration of the moon. NASA's proposed lunar architecture focuses on a third issue: How humans might accomplish the mission of exploring the moon.

In April 2006, NASA initiated development of the Global Exploration Strategy in order to meet a congressional mandate, as well as to accomplish goals outlined in the agency's strategic plan and the Vision for Space Exploration. The strategy is evolving from a lengthy dialogue among more than 1,000 individuals, including experts from NASA and 13 other space agencies, as well as non-governmental organizations and commercial interests. Experts from the Australian, Canadian, Chinese, European, French, German, British, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Russian, South Korean and Ukrainian space agencies participated.

NASA planners used the international group's deliberations as well as input from academia, private sector and private citizens as the basis for sketching a U.S. blueprint for a return to the moon. NASA's Lunar Architecture Team, chartered in May 2006, concluded that the most advantageous approach is to develop a solar-powered lunar base and to locate it near one of the poles of the moon. With such an outpost, NASA can learn to use the moon's natural resources to live off the land, make preparations for a journey to Mars, conduct a wide range of scientific investigations and encourage international participation.

"The architecture work has resulted in an understanding of what is required to implement and enable critical exploration objectives," said Doug Cooke, deputy associate administrator, Exploration Systems Directorate. "This is all important as we continue the process we have begun and better define the architecture and our various exploration roles in what is a very exciting future for the United States and the world."

As currently envisioned, an incremental buildup would begin with four-person crews making several seven-day visits to the moon until their power supplies, rovers and living quarters are operational. The first mission would begin by 2020. These would be followed by 180-day missions to prepare for journeys to Mars.

The proposed lunar architecture calls for robotic precursor missions designed to support the human mission. These precursors include landing site reconnaissance, natural resource assays and technology risk reduction for the human lander.

Moving into 2007, NASA will continue to refine its lunar architecture, maintaining the open dialogue initiated in 2006, to enhance further the Global Exploration Strategy. NASA's goal is to enable a sustainable space exploration effort in which participating organizations can achieve individual goals with mutually beneficial results.

Both the Global Exploration Strategy and NASA's lunar architecture will be discussed in depth at the second Space Exploration Conference, Dec. 4-6, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Terraforming is effectively not a good word to express what I meant to say. By "Terraforming a facility", I meant rendering this same facility auto-suficient in its ability to sustain life. This mean an air filtration system (based on plants chose for their oxygen production capability), water and ressources recuperation systems, and plantations (mostly different than the air filtration system)that produces food for the people who live in the facility (hope you love soja though, because animals eat lot more more calories than what they produces).

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS
HOSPITAL , U S - PLEASE READ

Please circulate to all you know: Cancer update -- John Hopkins -- Cancer News from John Hopkins:

1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.
Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.
Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.
He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.
He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.
This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.
He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the
reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.
Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Deadfunk, you are right that physically, humans are weak. Our strenght reside in the fact we can adapt to any environment, and adapt any environment to us. More so, it resides in the fact that as the ants, we can work together for a common goal.

Some examples of our greatness: We made suits in which we can stand beside a lava slide for minutes, or live through the open space, the big nothing (try to find any animal able of that). We produced farming, freezing, and transportation technology which enables us to feed ourselves easily even in areas where there should be awful food shortage (when is the last time you saw a field, a cow or a fruit tree in Montreal ?). We have no fur, yet we we live in Quebec ! We cannot stand an atomic explosion, but we can build shelters to protect ourselves ... I think I made my point.

And the more time goes, the fastest we can adapt, due to communication technology who enables brains from all over the globe to join together and find solutions. When a problem is discovered, within a day, a team is formed to find a solution.

Individually speaking we are weak, but if you compare species to species, we rock !

That, or I know more than you ... Read NASA reports, man will be walking on Mars pretty soon (within a couple decades). They are having a space station built on the moon to refuel the spacecrafts, which don't need that much fuel to travel once they left Earth's attraction field. Before our planet becomes a "hell hole", humanity will already inhabts the moon, and probably Mars also. Not to say that there will still be people living in some kinds of bunkers in here.

As I said, we can lose a couple millions or billions of people on the way, and the lifestyle will be totally different but I'm not affraid for humanity !

War is part of human nature and I don't think we'll ever get rid of it with any action we might pose. Scientific studies (I'll try to find the link to that study again) point to the fact that groups of people of 3 or more, no matter how close they are, will divide into factions, which in time will start fighting and competing against each others, if their are left to themselves.

The same studies also point out to the fact that two groups "divided" in such a way will only merge together again if they have a common ennemy to fight and that once the ennemy is "vanquished", the same process starts again and the group will either divide or find a new common ennemy to compete against.

On the other end, another article I read (MSN news spoke about that one a couple years back, this is what brought me to dig it), in Biology this time, reported that they discovered (back in 2002 I think) a new part of the brain, present amongst 33% of the population only. They traced it's origins to the time period where humans started burying the deads and building cities and societies. That combined to the fact that studied criminals never had that part of the brain developped brought the idea that this new step in evolution might be the key to world peace and unity ... in a couple billion years.

In the meantime, there will always be people thursty for blood, and I say better theirs than myne !

QUT scientists on the way to sifting out a cure for HIV

HIV may one day be able to be filtered from human blood saving the lives of millions of people, thanks to a world-first innovation by Queensland University of Technology scientists.

QUT scientists have developed specially designed ceramic membranes for nanofiltration, which are so advanced they have the potential to remove viruses from water, air and blood.

Associate Professor Huaiyong Zhu, from QUT's School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, is leading the development of these membranes, also known as nano-mesh, and said preliminary research had proved it successful in removing viruses from water.

Nanofiltration is the filtration of minute particles using a filter with extremely small pores.

"If we can remove compounds from liquids and viruses from water, then there may also be potential to remove HIV from blood," Dr Zhu said.

Dr Zhu said current ceramic membranes were unable to permit high filtration flux or flow, and at the same time effectively filter out unwanted particles or viruses.

He said another failing of current membranes was they often formed pin-holes and cracks during the fabrication process, resulting in wasted membranes.

"With this in mind we have introduced radical changes to the membrane texture because it is the membrane texture which is crucial to the separation efficiency of the material," he said.

"It is scientifically known that a mesh structure is the most efficient form of filtration and we are the first group to successfully construct such a structure on a nanometre scale with ceramic fibres.

"This modification has increased the rates of flow that pass through the membranes by at least ten times compared with current ceramic membranes, while maintaining the efficiency of capturing over 96 per cent of the unwanted particles."

Dr Zhu said the membranes, which have been patented by QUT, were not solely restricted to blood filtration and could also be used to filter water and air.

"For example this technology could be used to filter airborne viruses such as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and the avian flu virus, both of which are currently a major concern to the international community."

He said because the membrane was designed to permit a large flux or flow, it could also be used for water treatment, as well as within the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Another benefit of the technology is that the alumina and titania nanofibres are made from compounds produced in abundance in Australia.

"It's literally home-grown technology," he said.

"Titania is a compound found in beach sand and alumina is an intermediate product of aluminium which is the third most abundant element in the earth's crust.

"Australia is the largest producer of alumina and titania in the world meaning we can make nano-mesh relatively easily and cheaply."

But Dr Zhu said the future of nano-mesh relied on attracting an industry partner interested in developing the technology into a commercial product.

"We have proven the technology works, so the initial research has been done," he said.

"We now need a partner to come on board and help us develop this technology into a product that has the potential to save the lives of people with HIV."
