Actually I got my tats done by a friend who quit the shop that gave him negligeable working conditions. He's fully equiped at home, safe and all, and has already established himself as a profesionnal, so people know him and he has enough work to keep him busy all the time. If you can manage it on your own, without a shop, I say go for it. If no one knows you, they are taking a risk however.
