i think its mainly to do with the appearance, and also increases the barrier to new dj's since lots of people have cd's and laptops but far less have vinyl and turntable equipment..seems sorta like an elitist thing to me

i think that the term "peer pressure" is overused, because not too often do your friends actually pressure you to take a drug, unless there pretty sick..

i think "peer influence" is a much more accurate term, because we all are influenced alot more than we think by our friends, even things like taste in music, the language we use, etc is heavily influenced by the people we hang out with..

when it comes to meth, or any drug for that matter, think about this: what's the chance that someone, who doesn't have any friends who take meth, all of sudden decide to take meth, find a drug dealer, and take it alone? probably none. but take that same person, put him/her together with a group of people taking meth, and the chance of that person joining in is much greater. cause that person looks at their friends, sees them having a great time and no visible bad effects, so decides naturally to "try it"

kafwin, obviously i dont know u, but I take issue with some of the things you said. don't think my comments are directed towards you at all, they're just some of my thoughts...

First of all, I doubt anyone that is currently in rehab or had their life badly affected by drugs thought to themeselves when they first took the drug, "I'm gonna take this drug and fuck my life up". Of course not, anyone who's ever taken a drug thinks they'll be able to control it. And in the end many of these people will be able to control their use, others won't. But I think it's difficult to know in advance because you only know whether or not your addicted to a drug once problems start.

Secondly, I think that by someone saying they don't want anyone expressing concern for drug use is almost like saying they don't want anyone to care about them. If I were to fall on the street and break my leg, I'd expect my friends to help me because they're supposed to care about me. Similarly, if I was doing something which my friends saw as self-destructive, whether its drug use or anything else, I'd expect those that care about me to say something. In fact, if they didn't, I'd take it as an indication that they didn't care about me.

Anyways, these are just my thoughts, feel free to take issue with anything I've said.

well it was actually pretty safe from '93-'00, but now its kinda dangerous, but most of the actual fighting is in the Palestinian territories, i wanna go to Bethlehem cause I've never been but I dont know if I'll be able too..oh well at least I'll get a few days in jerusalem, i've been there lots of times but its still neat to go..
