i totally understand the message of what your saying, its just i'm not sure what the actual goal we are trying to achieve here is: do we want a law defining what is a legal or illegal rave? i personally do not. and when you say "ravers kill raves" what specifically are you referring to?

before we can get anywhere, we first have to decide where we want to go

raves, as far as i understand, are in sort of a grey area legally. introducing rave legislation would define what is a legal rave, which would in turn be accompanied by a crackdown against illegal raves (no purpose in introducing a law without enforcement). this would in effect polarize the scene..you would have large, mainstream, legal raves, in addition to small, very underground raves. personally, i prefer what we have now. and yes i wish we could convince more people that they can have a great time without drugs...easier said than done.

neoform - i believe you. but lets be honest, raves would be nowhere near as popular as they are now if it werent for drugs.

ummm ever been to a ray junior party? they even have a cop car parked out in front but that doesnt stop people smuggling drugs in. or what about hulla - ive never been but from reading meg's review it seems there were plenty of drugs. or even stereo - think noone takes drugs there?

ok this post is going to be VERY opinionated but it is just my perspective, i know many will disagree...

first of all, I dont disagree that drug use at raves is sometimes a problem. but drugs are probably the reason why there is even a rave scene in the first place. if you look back to the late 80's, the spreading popularity of raves coincided with the spreading popularity of ecstacy. as far as I've read, almost everyone took ecstacy in those early raves. now of course alot of ravers have moved on to far nastier drugs, which of course hasn't helped. but lets be honest...its not possible for most people to stay up all night dancing sober. so without drugs, what kind of scene would we have left? sad but true. and this is coming from a nearly complete straightedge.

next..the issue of legality. personally, i'm not even sure myself if i would be glad if raves became legalalized. i mean in Montreal we have such a large legal nightlife...clubs, afterhours, and the big production companies like 514 and ray junior. but somehow raves are different than all that. i think at least part of the reason why is their quasi-legal status. if raves were to become legal, it would mean increased security, drug policies, etc, which would limit the ability of promoters to throw smaller, more intimate parties. instead, it would encourage commercialism and profit-driven promoters...basically making raves less of what we enjoy about raves.

aiight i'm warning u this review is gonna be somewhat corny but whatever..

it was my friends bday party so i ended up leaving much later than i expected. when i got to the place around 1.30 or so all i saw was maybe 20 squad cars parked out in front of the place, and they wouldnt let me in. at that point, i must admit, i kinda got the feeling that it was good while it lasted, because i had no idea what was gonna happen. but luckily people responded in an amazing way, and managed to arrange the party to continue elsewhere. just getting to the new place was funny as else, packed onto the night buses with all the other people, and walking down st laurent doing random crazy shit. anyways once i got to the new place it was just getting restarted and i had this amazing feeling that no matter what, the vibe will never die. big ups to the idj krew, the owners of the loft, and all the partygoers for making the trek over. musically speaking, the first set i heard was dj freedom (i missed gerald belanger) and her set was kinda more mellow than i was in the mood for, but then k2 and obilio dropped the heavy beats i was waiting for in an amazing tag team. after that i kinda lost track of who was spinning, just remember the great mobb deep remix dropped by axionfigga. well thats about it im gonna get some sleep now hehe.

aiight heres what happened today...
i wrote an exam for a course taught by the associate dean of my faculty. afterwards i got really pissed cause all he talked about in class was faculty politics and other bs and the exam had all this stuff he never mentioned. so i sent him a somewhat insulting email and then posted it on the discussion board for the course. since now i figure hes gonna make the next 3 years of my life a living hell, ive decided to end it now, please help me decide the best method:

1. jump in front of metro
2. hang myself from tree in front of skool
3. DRUG OVERDOSE!!! (u supply the drugs)
