i wrote this while coming down:
life is a subjective experience. do with it what you will.

last night i realized that mentally speaking, speed and mdma are opposites. speed is an ego-boosting experience while mdma is an ego-melting one. i much prefer ego-melting.

there is no absolute measure of a life's purpose or meaning, everything is relative.

this is kinda off topic but...

I don't see the concept of God as any more than an extension of socially created hierchies into the heavens. The higher up in rank you go (peasant, landlord, governer, king, etc these are just made up but you get the drift) you get fewer and fewer people who possess more and more power. Thus, for someone conditioned to such hierchies, its not far off to assume that there must be one big guy at the top of the pyramid who is the master of everything. Naturally since this is the Big Boss you want to be in his good books, but of course since God aint giving direct orders it falls into the hands of religious institutions to let you know what God really wants you to do and save yourself from sin and eternal damnation!!!

if there were no such thing as peanuts, there would be no such thing as peanut allergies, and thus all the people that died through negative reactions with peanuts would have lived..

thus, potentially altering the entire course of world events...different marriages would have taken place, different children being born, causing different things to happen..

IF NOT FOR PEANUTS, YOU MIGHT HAVE NEVER BEEN BORN!!!

and oh yah, they would have to change the words to "take me out to the ball game" cause everybody would be asking what the HELL is a peanut?

well there probably wouldn't be islam either since it grew out of the biblical religions

i think the question is all backwards though

religions don't exist because of religious texts

religions texts exist because of our thirst for answers to unanswerable questions and our acceptance of a prescribed way of thinking and behaving imposed by a higher authority

so if the bible didnt exist people would most likely adopt and follow another religious teaching...after all, if they were willing to submit themselves to the bible (which defintely could have used a much better editor in my opinion!) than most likely they would end up doing something similar even in the bible's adscence

and of course since the bible itself, but more importantly how it is understood and interpreted, is more a reflection of ourselves and our society than anything else, then nothing would really be much different unless other factors cause *us* to be different

good times =)=)

BIG space. like it took me about a half hour just to figure out how all the different passeges connected. sorta reminded me of aria. once i got used to it tho, the location rocked.

the people there were great. really. you all created an amazing vibe in that place. people seemed to be having the time of their lives, which is of course is very contagious. i ended up having a loooong but very worthwhile conversation with someone i just met, something i will remember and take out of this party.

the concept of the party, musically speaking, seemed to be to best represent as many different genres of electronic music as possible: everything from jungle to robotik tek to epic trance. of course this meant that some parts of the night i got into the music much more than others, depending on what was playing. overall tho i would rate the quality of music played as high.

so my final words...

kirk 6, you throw good parties!

for me it was divine..

yes it was cold if u just stood around, but as long as I was dancing I was fine...plus there were huge bonfires to chill at

the crowd was among the best I have experienced..reconnected with people I hadn't seen for awhile plus meeting plenty of new people

the place was beautiful..at night it was illuminated by lasers and blacklights, but as the sun came up in a cloud of purple the green forest all around was finally illuminated

so if anyone has pictures please post them somewhere!

Cocaine Research

Researchers in McGill University’s Dept. of Psychiatry are conducting a study about men (age 18-40) who have used cocaine during the past year. The study involves four 24-hour hospital stays, an interview, the ingestion of protein drinks, and the administration of cocaine. Participants will be compensated for their time. The principal investigator is Dr. Leyton. If interested, please email: mcgillresearch@hotmail.com, where you can leave your name, telephone number, and number of cocaine uses in the last year.

As a few of u know, I just recently got back from travelling in South America. One of my most incredible experiences on this trip was visiting the jungle in Ecuador with an indigenous family, where I got to participate in an ayahuasca ritual. Here are a couple of pics, just for fun...

trekking in the rainforest

the Shaman and his catch (which we ate for breakfast)

the tent we constructed, in which we would later spend trippping on ayahuasca

me and the shaman preparing the psychedelik malicowah plant, with red natural bodypaint

preparation of ayahuasca, the 'vine of the dead'

This plant is amazing. It´s not a long trip, maybe about 2-3 hours, but its intense - probably the most i´ve ever hallucinated. The Shuar indegenous people live in the jungle, near the Ecuador-Peru border, and I was lucky enough to participate in a shuar shamanic ceremony while camping in the middle of the rainforest. Pictures to come when I get back to Canada.

OK here are some of my (rambling) thoughts:

1. As a result of our socialization through various institutions (family, school, social networks, work, etc) our minds become limited to certain structures of thought. Our brains, in other words, become accostomed to certain ways of thinking, and these "paradigms of thought" become imprinted in our minds.

2. How we perceive our environment (the world around us) is directly affected, and to a certain extent controlled, by the structure of our minds. Morover, our mind acts as a filter, blocking out or altering those perceptions that do not fit our paradigm of thought. As a result, we only consciously perceive the tiny portion of our environment that complies with our way of thinking, and can be processed by our structure of thought.

3. There is a chemical trigger in our brain which somehow breaks down our normal pattern of thinking, temporarily "freeing our mind" from the socially learned structures of thought, and thus allowing us to perceive at a different level then normally possible. We become activity aware of our mind's ability to shape reality, and on the same token, are able to perceive much of what our minds had previously filtered out. For currently unknown reasons, psychedelics (LSD, psylocybin, and mescaline) have the capability to activate this trigger.

Consider an analogy: our brain structure is a tunnel, and we travel through this tunnel through the course of our lives, only consciously perceiving what our mind allows us to (the vision at the end of the tunnel). Thus, in our normal reality, we are in fact practising "tunnel vision". Psychedelics temporarily free our minds from normal patterns of thought, thus breaking down the walls of the tunnel, and allowing us to perceive everything around us in its entirety.

For me, enlightenment simply refers to the illuminating of the perceptions that normally exist only in our subconcious, ie that we are not normally aware of. I don't see enlightenment as neccesarily knowing any "answers", and in fact, someone who is "enlightened" will probably have more questions then answers, as opposed to the one who practices tunnel vision, and thus beleiving that he understands the world (since the less we perceive, the easier it is to explain our perceptions).

Of course, this leaves many questions unanswered:

What is one to do with all these new perceptions?
What is the purpose of new perceptions?
Is it better to remain unenlightened?

I think there are two common reactions by people that experience psychedelics:

1. A re-evaluation of the life one currently leads, with either a re-affirmation of one's previous path, or a complete change in life path triggered by a new state of consciousness OR

2. Confusion brought on by the new perceptions, unsatisfation with previous life path due to new perceptions, internal struggle.

Of course, all of the above is just one way of viewing psychedelics, i'm not even sure its correct, but I hope you can follow what I'm saying.

here's an interesting thought:

Time, as we measure it, is based on revolutions of the Earth around the Sun. Let's imagine, for whatever reason, that the Earth began drifting either further away (or closer to) the sun, thereby resulting in stretched (or compressed) day-lengths. Would time itself be affected, or just our perception of it?
