you don't think that the relationship between Dj and dancer has the same effect of producing performer/spectator?

Not to the same extent, cuz the dancer is being involved in moving to the music and is not just observing. No one goes to a rave just to stand and watch the DJ.

plus this is tantra so whoever's organising it gets to have sex with all the participants. hell i'd organise it!

I agree with this, and that's why buying from a reliable source is a much better way to ensure high quality. But even if you buy a shitty, heavily cut pill, its exetremely unlikely to be dangerous, since the dealers will cut their pills either with cheaper drugs (ephedrine, caffeine, etc) or with an inactive substance (ex. sugar). The only reason why a dealer would deliberately choose a harmful substance to cut their product with, is if they are trying to poison their customers, which I maintain is very unlikely.

in regards to pressed pills, once a pill is pressed, no matter how far down the latter it may go (from the guy who's manufacturing them to a runner at a party/rave/corner street) its still gonna be the same product... you know, unless you re-pressed the pills after cutting them but that doesn't make much sence.

Well, there is alot of stigma attached to drug use - not just in this board, but in society. Most people are quite ignorant about drugs and get all their information on the topic from government anti-drug campaigns and hollywood movies, so basically beleive that anyone who does drugs must be some kind of low-life junkie.

Then there are those who have used drugs but perhaps regret some of the things they've done, and might even hate that part of themself that wants to get high. So then when such people see others do similar behavior, they tend to take out their feelings and direct them at others rather than at themselves. A classic example of projection.

Had a lil adventure :)

Rented a motorbike from Mae Sai, the northernmost town in Thailand, right on the Burmese border. The roads to the peak of Doi Tung (Doi means mountain) were decent on the way up, and the views were incredible.

On the way down, I tried driving down a steep, more challenging side road in order to visit hill tribe villages along the way, primarily Akha. In one beautiful village called Ban Phahee, I met an english-speaking local who offered me a cup of freshly-roasted coffee, which is the commodity that the village farms and sells. He also mentioned that tomorow is the Akha New Year, which will be celebrated by the killing of a pig and a big feast. Would I like to spend the night in the village, he asked.

I replied that I had to return to Mae Sai to return the motorbike, but that I would try to rent the bike for another day and make it back before nighttime. What followed was a race against time, because I left the village at 5pm, dusk was approaching, and it was a difficult half hour drive back to Mae Sai.

The road down from Ban Phahee was quite dangerous. Paved all the way, but incredible steep and winding, with one blind turn after another. I had to pass a few millitary checkpoints on the way, but was waved through. Apparently since the decline of opium in the area, the army is focusing more on illegal Burmese immigrants.

I was nearly back at Ban Phahee when darkness finally set in, and with no streetlights, I only had the small headlight of my motorbike to guide me. All I could see in front of me was a small circle of light. Before I knew it, I arrived at an Akha village - but it was the wrong one! I had missed the turnoff for Ban Phahee and ended up somewhere further down the slope.

Fortunately, the first family in this Akha village that I encountered was exetremely generous, and invited me to have dinner with them and spend the night. If not for their display of kindness, I would have been in pretty deep shit. The dinner was delicious, and they allowed me to sleep on the only bed while the family slept on blankets on the floor.

About 7pm, when light came out, I was able to make my way to Ban Phahee and take part in the New Year's Feast. I missed the slaughtering of the pig, but got to see it being prepared. I was then invited to sit down and try to stuff as much meat in my stomach (and drink as much super-potent Akha whiskey) as I could.

"Doi Tung...

travelling after 4pm - when traffic thins out - is not advised except along the main routes. It is not safe to trek in this area without a Thai or hill-tribe guide simply because you could be mistaken for a United STates Drug Enforcement Agency agent (by the drug dealers) or drug dealer (by the Thai army rangers who patrol this area). You may hear gunfire from time to time, which might indicate that the rangers are in pursuit of the Mong Thai Army (MTA) or Karen rebels"

Cool post. The "golden spiral" and the ratio phi is also something that fascinates me; apparently this ratio can be found everywhere in nature, and has been incorporated into numerous examples of art and archetecture.

I wouldn't call time a "pseudo" term, however. I think you're confusing time itself with the units by which it is measured. Of course, seconds, minutes and hours are completely arbitrary measurements. We could just as well develop a system of time that had, for example, 100 seconds per minute rather than 60. But time exists independant of how it is measured, just like objects have mass no matter whether its measured in pounds or kilograms.

As far as cosmological theory goes, time and space are fundamentally related to one another (just as mass and energy are, e=mc^2) and space-time is actually the fabric of the universe.

Your discussion of "conscious life" vs "total life" is also interesting, but again I must disagree. Sleep is not useless in one's development; its a time for dreams and for the assimilation of unconscious mental contents. Dream life and waking life surely complement each other. So someone who sleeps less will likely have a less active dream life, and this in turn will effect their waking life. Besides, someone who sleeps more each night might be more alert and aware during the day, thus more fully conscious than someone who is often drowsy. There are many degress of consciousness, not just "asleep" and "awake".

Lol. The human population, at any given moment, is exactly what the earth has allowed for that moment. So there is no such thing as 'over-population' because if there were insufficient resources AT THE PRESENT to sustance a given population, than that population would not have the resources to survive and thus would not have existed in the first place.

Now, its entirely possible that there are insufficient resources for the current population to continue to survive into the future, in which case the population will naturally shrink.

Nonetheless, as humans, its natural and expected for one to feel empathy with fellow humans, and to be sad when many die.

The definition of 'psychedelic' is actually 'mind-revealing'. So a psychedelic drug is a substance that reveals to oneself the contents of one's mind.

Of course, there are some drugs which are far more psychelelic and/or "intense" than others. On the one hand, you have drugs with mildly psychedelic properties like weed and MDMA, and on the opposite end of the sprectrum are substances such as DMT, with acid and mushrooms somewhere in the middle.

Some of the psychedelic effects that I've experienced on weed include: vivid recollection of past events, dreamy and abstract thought processes, intense introspection, time dilation, and even mild closed/open eye visuals. In fact, very good weed can feel alot like a small dose of mushrooms.

Many people in Sri Landa, Indonesia, and even Thailand live very simple lives, and depend on a few meagre belongings for their entire livelihood. Take, for example, a family that subsists on fishing, and owes their existence to a single fishing boat that might have been passed down for several generations. Destroy this boat, and the family will likely end up as beggars. When something like this happens, and people loose their ability to make a living, its a catastrophe for the future of the country.

Finally I agree with you. Yes, it sucks that many "E" pills are cut, and this is of course a result of MDMA's illegal status. If MDMA were legalized and controlled, than this problem wouldnt exist.

But the point remains, if you order steak and get hamburger instead, you might be disapointed, but you won't die on account of eating the hamburger

I think people who spend alot of time communicating on the internet develop a second personality, that only lives on the internet. And they can be one person in real life and a completely different person on the internet, and act and do things while under the influence of the internet that their real-life personality wouldn't even consider.

"So honestly,... do whatever you want... because the same way I'll suffer from the irreversible effects of smoking if I don't quit soon, you will surely suffer from the irreversible side effects of whatever drugs you use."

Exactly. But people need accurate and balanced information to make decisions. And an accurate assesment of MDMA is that the risk of dying from a pill is VERY low (according to dancesafe, 1 in 100,000). In fact, you are far less likely to die from taking an "ecstasy" pill than you are from a night of heavy drinking.

Rather than talk about theoretical situations, why not look at the actual results in Montreal. Between all the afterhour clubs, the raves, and house parties, I'd say there's over 1,000 people on average taking pills on any given weekend (possibly many more). And theres a good chance that many of them will not do so in a particularly safe manner. Some will take 3 or more pills at once, others will mix pills with alcohol or other drugs, and even more will forget to drink a proper amount of water. Yet when was the last time you heard of an ecstasy fatality in Montreal? I can't even think of one myself, and you can be sure that if there WAS one it'd be plastered all over the news.

[ dancesafe.org ] for more risk-assesment information
