Wow...

Sur ce, who wants more minous ?

After playing Everquest for 4-5 years and Final Fantasy Online (okay, that one sucked, but I still kept playing because of some people... then because of habit+people) for 3 years, WoW finally cured me of my MMO addiction, in under 2 months.

It was interesting at first, but pre-raid levels, it truly is as much instant gratification as I feared it would be. Plus, pre-burning cruisade, the LFG tools were more retarded than anything I had ever seen, with the exception of some obscure korean games. It's fun at first to be able to do stuff by yourself, but community is what makes me stay.
I saw some raids, they were okay, but the deal breaker for me is that I am an anti-voicechat purist. I do not want to hear teenagers making bad jokes during a raid.

So, yeah, I found myself playing less and less, feeling my desire to log on fade away, and now, even though I sometimes still feel a twinge of desire to make a toon on some game or another, I like my life better now. I got what I needed out of these games, it's time for me to move on.

As to the monthly fee argument... Most people who play spend so much time a month playing them that it comes down to pennies per hour (cheaper than most other forms of entertainment), and play them for months if not years. Assuming that one is legit and pays for their games, a reasonable gamer, going through 2-3 games/month would pay multiples time more. I'm not going to argue any further on that, though, seen too many multiple pages threads on that point alone...

Vee-Vee:
À vrai dire, je n'ai pas vraiment envie de lancer un débat philosophique profond ici :) There's a time and place for serious discussions... and it ain't ravewave !

XD

Yay for college philosophy classes.

Sophism - modern usage:

In traditional logical argument, a set of premises are connected together according to the rules of logic and lead therefore to some conclusion. We can also argue this backward in order to explain ideas. For example, you think of something based on a series of conclusions. A conclusion is a premise, i.e. a statement, based on an inference, that is, a piece of information. If the inference is a fact, then the conclusion has a factual base.

When someone criticizes the argument, they do so by pointing out either falsehoods among the premises or logical fallacies, flaws in the logical scaffolding. These criticisms may be subject to counter-criticisms, which in turn may be subject to counter-counter-criticisms, etc. Generally, some judge or audience eventually either concurs with or rejects the position of one side and thus a consensus opinion of the truth is arrived at.

The essential claim of sophistry is that the actual logical validity of an argument is irrelevant (if not non-existent); it is only the ruling of the audience which ultimately determines whether a conclusion is considered "true" or not. By appealing to the prejudices and emotions of the judges, one can garner favorable treatment for one's side of the argument and cause a factually false position to be ruled true.

Logical Fallacy - common examples:

* Formal fallacies
o Argument from fallacy "ad logicam"
o Affirming the consequent or Denying the antecedent
* Faulty generalization Inductive fallacies like
o Biased sample
o Half-truths
o Hasty generalization
o Misleading vividness
o Package-deal fallacy or False dilemma
o Proof by example
* Questionable cause Informal causal fallacies
o Begging the question, circular logic "petitio principii"
o Correlation implies causation "Cum hoc ergo propter hoc"
o Post hoc ergo propter hoc
o Appeal to consequences "ad consequentiam"
o Appeal to force "ad baculum"
o Appeal to probability & Slippery slope
* Informal Relevance fallacies
o Irrelevant conclusion "Ignoratio elenchi" like Red herring
o Straw man
o Association fallacy
o Ad hoc
o Argument from ignorance, incredulity, belief, conviction... "ad ignorantiam"
o Appeal to emotion like Appeal to fear, Appeal to flattery, Appeal to pity, Appeal to spite...
o Wishful thinking
o Appeal to authority or Appeal to ridicule "Ad hominem"
o Appeal to the majority "ad populum"
o Appeal to tradition "ad antiquitatem"
* Informal Verbal fallacies
o Equivocation & Loki's Wager
o Undistributed middle & No true Scotsman

Meh, I don't want to know if he'd know what to do. I know what I'd do if he tried, and at this point, it involves mutilation. I can't stand people who are being condescending to their significant other and still dare pretend that what they feel is love.

-after image is uploaded, it will appear at the bottom of the "upload gallery image" screen, with buttons on the right of each picture. The top button is "make main". Click it.
