alright, i just talked to my dad, who used to work at London records, dealing with final tape to vinyl masters and master pressings. (he used microscopes and such to detail the grooves to make sure nothing would skip or have grooves blend into each other...how cool is that!? )

so, the best is to find a heat source that will heat the record just enough to make it malleable, then to press it with some cold clean glass, with some weight. a few hours should be enough. it might slightly affect the grooves, but it'll only maybe make the vinyl a little sensitive (i assume the sensitivity part, dad says probably not).

of course, his first response was: "buy a new record" - lol

you could also leave the record in the sun between glass, and when it seems to ply a bit, take it out and put it somewhere cool.

i suggest testing these theories on shitty vinyls first.

the other thing is that, depending on the gravity of the wave, it shouldn't affect the speed at which the record plays. you can still beatmatch, but yeah, you might get wavy sound throughout the song. and the needle might dig into the record at the peak of the wave.

my idea:

the ideal situation, which is impossible but theoretically correct, would be to have the original polished metal press version, the 'negative' they use the press the vinyl in the first place (that's impossible to get part 1 ) and place it perfectly (that's the impossible part 2 ) and put weight on it.

good luck finding the metal press version, and placing it perfectly like the machine that pressed it :p ...plus it's just cheaper and easier to get another copy, obviously.

records have a shelf life, like all other mediums, and everything in life. it's sad, but true. if someone fucked up and the vinyls got an early retirement 'cause of sun or heat, too bad, sorry, but shit happens... :)

- keep a satanic bible handy. when they come ad say they want to talk to you, you answer" hey great! me too!" and hold up the satanic verses, with a big smile. it helps if you have a large pentagram in eye-sight.

- blare some speedcore and repeat: "what? i can't hear you!"

- answer the door with a greasy dildo in your hand

- tell them you ARE jehova.

- tell them to fuck off and slam the door in their face.

- or, you can be super nice, and join the club.

works fine anyways. most of the options are there. it's a clone type thing, so the interface is very similar.

i'm sure those guys are great, but do they throw raves w/ hardcore, d'n'b, psy, dubstep, hhc, industrial, hardtechno, etc. ? Or is it just afterhour/bar nights w/ house and club music?

'cause, yeah, i could make a killing throwing raggaton/house nights. comparing rave promoters to other promoters is not a great example. like bal en blanc...would ravers prefer that kind of event, with soft music and lame themes?

the rave scene was 2000+ ppl strong up to about 6 years ago, then the police busted everything up (some ppl blame ray junior and such crews) and the scene diminished to about 200 ppl. we've managed to rebuild to about 600+ strong despite many problems over the past few years (cyclical busts, lack of $ and venues, other fads taking over, etc.), but if the ppl don't even support their own scene, because of venues, cash flow, and promoters stepping on each others toes, then what's the point?

problem w/ bar nights is not just the 3am thing, it's the 18+ thing. well, if the kids don't care for the music or sticking to their plans, maybe it's better off that way. they can go huff nail-polish, listening to their iPods in their parents' basement on the waste island until they're old enough.

on the other hand, the older jaded 'know-it-all' generation doesn't help. not that i can blame them after all that's happened (and all the drugs?)...

anyways, can't really blame anyone or anything, neither promoters nor ravers and DJs, but it would be nice to find he root of the problem.

This thread probably isn't doing wonders for the image of the party (which was awesome btw :P ), but i'm really glad that the event can serve as a catalyst for this kind of discussion, and perhaps even change/improvement.

i love hard electronic music, it's my passion. i would love to see it flourish. at the same time, the scene is just one among many, just a form of deep entertainment, another clique of like-minded ppl, who try to find meaning through the art of music.

never give up / never back down / never do the same thing twice.

(sorry for the long post)

i honestly doubt it. all depends on how solid is the promotion around it

here's the top ten attendance lists on [ rave.ca ]

1. Terra 3 (321)
2. Rewire 5 (302)
3. Scream (277)
4. Reign In Blood (268)
5. Rewire 3 (260)
6. Rewire 4 (256)
7. Eclipse 2008 (254)
8. The Final Raves'r'us (252)
9. Starlight 2 (248)
10. Eclipse 2007 (244)

all those parties had headliners (DJs form Ontario and QC count, btw).

i rest my case.

:)

that's why i think i'll do bar nights only, so much cheaper and easier!

yeh...

300 was break-even...we had approximately 230 paying customers...plus guests and staff. approximately 300 people, but not all paying, and a bunch on reduce prices. Now you know why promoters are strict at the door?

clear enough for ya?

Now, honestly, i'm sick of ppl shitting on price and venue (as if we had a choice in either department), i don't care anymore about who didn't go, i just want to hear from those that DID go, and LOVED it :)

So, please keep it positive, and drop this excuse-fest. (And Dee, wtf, you were there in the morning, drunk as fuck, you sly dawg - you know you wanted to be there :p )

ps. i don't go out much either these days, because 5$ for a bar night is way too expensive for me. them be the breaks...

much love

thnx for the support guys... but geez, it's sounding like it was a disaster, but it really wasn't. despite a few normal, even typical, drawbacks, the party was more than excellent :)

throwing raves in mtl is just getting harder and harder. just means we have to find more solutions. for myself, i'll probably throw shows instead of raves, to at least showcase the music we love, w/out breaking our balls.

Mayor Tremblay is up for re-election soon...i think it's about time the scene payed him a little visit ;)

we worked so hard on this, and the reviews so far are 110% positive. we don't need your negativity and caps-lock here. don't ruin it for us, seriously.

guess i should've known that mentioning you would start a shit storm. i retract my comment, for the greater good.

bliss, i never said it was entirely your fault. but of course, you believe yourself to be the center of the universe...even if you told one person not to go, it's enough. i would go find the exact quote where you said you were discouraging people but i don't have time to waste on your sorry ass. you're blowing this way out of proportion in order to make the situation look worse than it really was.

And that fighting you're talking about, was clearly you trolling. so whatever. and it didn't affect shit. no one cares.

besides, you don't know fuck all about the rave scene, you haven't raved in years, and never play in raves anymore.

you're not a reference.

the party as incredible, but some people are upset at some other people who didn't show up. no big deal. so stfu, instead of using this as an excuse to continue bashing me. we worked really really hard on this event, don't ruin it for us just because you're a vindictive prick.

had a feeling you were spying on this thread, waiting to say something negative and mean spirited.

turnout wasn't poor, but those 5 ppl you told not to come (you said you did exactly that, btw), makes a small difference. if it wasn't true, you shouldn't have said it. If it was just a lie to piss us off all those months ago, then sorry

*edit*: i would apologize sincerely, but your arrogant re-edit of your post makes me want to retract that 'sorry' i wrote, but i'll leave it, 'cause i have principles.

anyway, this review thread is awesome, don't ruin it for everyone. you've done enough damage.
