i knew someone was gonna nitpick on my sentence...

i meant that if it's a CD of low-quality Dled burnt tracks on a dirty old disc.. my post was long enough so i didn't want to get into a long run-on sentence detailing that we should make exceptions 'cause some DJs burn play their own music on burnt CD (like i also do) and ppl like one lab rat who bring burnt versions of their store-bought albums to keep 'em safe at home... well, guess i had to specify anyway! :P

sense of humor: no one has one around here? ;)

oh wait, Frank does:

i really feel that playing a few Dled tracks here and there doesn't hurt anyone (unless the songs suck ass)..

.. and most of you are forgetting the part where DJs used to be regarded as the ppl who helped PROMOTE other artists' music. DJs used to be given records for that reason, so that others would go out and buy the record. problem now is that DJs are the target market, 'cause ppl go out to a bar/party to hear those tunes, they don't by a 12 inch d'n'b plate just to listen to at home. but DJ's buy those records to play them out... so they are the consumers. if companies don't sell techno to DJs, they won't sell many albums at all. (as far as i can tell)

but, subtone, if you're talking specifically about leaked/unreleased tunes, then yeah, that's a different story. i guess it's like some ppl are cheating?

anyways, i don't think we have that problem w/ hardcore. most HC artists are just happy someone is playing their fucked up tracks :P - lol

---

[ rave.ca ] has gone over this subject time and time again.. it's a question of opinion, and where your musical ethics lie. i just think it's one of those 'case by case' topics, where some exceptions can and should be made.

meh, the whole thing is: 'free art vs. artists need to eat and invest in making better art'

and Melo, someone playing a shit copy of a tune you bought and planned on playing yourself! shitty!!

/epically long post

:)

**Important Info!**

event calendar says that the closest metro to the venue is Charlevoix, but that metro station is closed!!

there is a STM shuttle bus that runs from Lionel-Groulx to Charlevoix metro, but i suggest you get out at metro Place-St.-Henri metro, which is actually as close to the venue as Charlevoix.. just walk south and cross the Lachine Canal to St.Patrick street ... check your maps and/or the STM website for more info!

a vicious circle was created when kids started playing nothing but DLed tunes.. that led to certain Djs, who buy records, getting less bookings, 'cause these kids had all the freshest tracks, so those other DJs who got less bookings, got paid less, and can't afford albums anymore.

next thing y'know, good ppl are playing pirated material just to keep up.

i'll play two or three DLed tunes in a set, but those are usually tracks thrown my way by friends who want to hear those sounds at a party.. and i'm also extremely poor and have no credit card (plus i pay hardcore, which is a different beast).

i also really think less ppl would play mp3's if DJs got paid more and could afford records. then again, who wants to pay a dj who doesn't even pay for his music? If you see your dj playing nothing but burnt CDs, and they aren't his tunes, cut his salary! give the balance to the old dude who brought records ;)

meh busines.. but an artist has to eat too.

back to to the top, a vicious circle started, and now it's gonna be hard to get out of it.

but, like you mentioned, subtone, the worst part is that the sound quality suffers.

i only upload my tracks on this site, at second best quality.. but if someone wanted to play my tracks, they should ask me for the wav! i'll gladly give it to the person, free (until i release an official album :P )

so, this is a major problem in the d'n'b scene?

... perhaps it's just another reason for sticking to vinyl :P
