if i have to become some monstrous butterfly in order to survive on another planet, i think i'll just stay on earth and die, thnx :p

everytime a hippy sings, a nano-tech-space-butterfly get it's wings..

besides, the thing whose shape is most suited for space travel, is probably ... a dildo. :p

yeah, but, last i checked, butterflies aren't exactly the type of creatures best designed to withstand lotsa pressure and harsh environments :p .. maybe we'd become flying versions of those deep-sea fishes (oops, i mean, sea-kittens) ..

and unicorns .. well, i'm pretty sure nature tried the butterfly / unicorn combo .. it was called the dodo bird; it was ugly as fuck and it died pretty quick .. :p

anyway, believing in a unicorn-filled-butterfly theory that looks like a 7 yo girl's bedroom poster is a little nuts. maybe more that a little ... is this the hippy version of scientology?

so i heard that all the sets were recorded in the main room .. let us know when they're available! :)

which leads me to my only complaint about the party: having to play on those goddamn CDJ 200s .. i hate 'em!
so... don't judge parts of my set too harshly when you hear the recording :p - lol

one last shout out to host1, golgo13, plecko, melo, deadfunk, ext, etc., for kicking ass! XD
(i'm sure the others were great too but i didn't hear all the sets - sucks that i missed bass-ic's set since we were playing at the same time) ...

you're right, Dr.N, but for me there's a difference between 'romantic' and 'soap-opera-drama-love-romance' ..

lol! in 'interview with a vampire' when they picked up kids, it was to suck their.. blood!

the real question here is, what's with all the lovey bullshit romance stuff?

vampires are supposed to be killers, amoral, night-fiends.. humans are food to them .. i don't fall in love with girls that remind me of poutine! (of course, if girl looks like poutine, i shouldn't even be talking to her :p )

i know that anne rice kinds turned the vamp idea very poetic, and even more romantic, but there was still alot of killing and struggling with the concept of becoming a murderous creature.. but even then, the nasty vamps were there too..

where's nosferatu when you need him? where are the mean ass 'blade' vampires?

you have to admit that in some traditions and interpretations, vampires have been high class, they dress well, they're snobby, and live well in big castles or whatever.. but in modern society, i'd see them as alot more trashy. rodriguez nailed the bad-ass trash vamp idea in 'from dusk till dawn'..

i hear ya' fred .. it's sad .. i think south park summed it well in 'the ungroundable' episode.

you'd have to call cite2000 and ask .. i know they have a shitload of rooms in there, but they might all be taken. most bands there, like you said, share space, though that might jut be to cut costs, and not 'cause of limited rooms.

there's a place on iberville, south of masson i think.. not sure what it's like though, nor what it's called :p

and there's a place around mile-end parc-ex .. can't remember where exactly, but it smells like a hamster cage .. i also think it's an hourly rental - i don't recommend it.

i'm not sure if cite2000 does super long-time rental, again, call and ask. they'll be able to tell you. if you're just looking for someone who already has a room, and you want to share, sorry i can't help. i know 2 bands that jam there, but they're space is packed up tight already ..

good luck! if i hear of any other places, i'll let you know :)

hmm.. that does sound like a shitty experience..

thing is, sometimes (if not most of the time) promoters have to rely on the door fee in order to pay their artists. when the turn out is a little lower than expected, things get real fucked up. 'raves' are still very underground here in montreal, despite the size of the city, and it's supposedly kick ass nightlife. so, resources are limited; promoters do it for passion and have no real collateral.
(obviously ppl shouldn't be inviting DJs they can't afford, but, meh.. )

it's very unfortunate, and that has led to some fucked up circumstances over the years. in the foreground, parties are usually wicked, but in the background, things get shady. i have a feeling that that's a global thing though..

i also know that JS could have asked for more help from some of us if he needed it. and also, as i said before, the venue owners dicked 'em out of alot of cash, that was probably intended for the DJs.
that's not a very good excuse, but it explains things a bit.

--> Milo, you're from NYC? i don't know who you know over there, but i suggest that you ask the ppl from the hardcore scene, who have been up here the most often, like Lenny Dee, who they would recommend, or not recommend, doing business with in MTL (and eastern canada) in the future.

again, montreal promoters are poor, we do what we can with what we have. sometimes it's a success, sometimes it's a failure, sometimes we meet in the middle.

... and now that Milo and Orbit1 have profiles on [ rave.ca ] they have no choice but to come participate in the stupid discussions, memes, and drama :p - j/k - lol

all is well that ends well .. fuck i hope this ends well .. ;)

i think you're just supposed to live. if i believe i can do something, it's 'cause i want to. if it succeeds, then great! if it doesn't, then too bad.. next!

pessimism & optimism don't really exist. like saying this person always smiles, and that person never smiles. it ain't true! some ppl have a real shitty defeatist attitude, and some ppl are just coasting on blissful ignorance, but that's just how they live.

forget being positive or negative, just be. i have a right to be unhappy, and i have a right to laugh.. neither one of those things is constant, and neither one is easily controllable.

things happen.. good, bad, neutral.. who gives a fuck?

it's not a question of them not getting paid, it's that they didn't get paid enough. but Orbit1 seemed fine with the whole thing.

i've had much bigger names come here for much less ca$h, and they were happy and grateful, and so was i, and so were the ravers.

for the record, no one told me i couldn't get paid 'cause they had to pay the headliners, but i know goddamn well that that's how it is. don't pretend for one second that if the locals are underpaid it's not because the headliners are asking for too much.. (i know js would've paid me if he had turned a profit, and he might still pay me regardless - then again, who gives a fuck about money!?)

what didn't help was that the venue owners are pretty much con artists, and were also asking for way more than they deserve, also at the last minute.

decent people under shitty circumstances calls for sympathy and understanding.

after all the horror stories i've heard and seen, i really don't think this was nearly as scandalous.

( too bad a little international drama is ruining a perfectly good review thread for a fine party )

peace out XD

yeah, a cynic is not the opposite of an optimist. a cynic is just too based in reality to be extremely optimistic, that doesn't mean we complain all the time and can't have fun. doesn't mean we don't hope for the best...

and i'm really sick of ppl who think that the only way to succeed in life is ultra-positivism ...

to clarify, here's how i was first explained the concept of pessimist vs.optimist:

2 ppl are put into 2 separate rooms. the rooms are filled with shit, and the 2 ppl are given nothing but a shovel. after a few hours the scientists running the study observe the pessimist in his room, he's just standing there and he turns to them saying "wtf? i'm not gonna spend all day tossing shit around! this is pointless!" ... so then the scientists check the 2nd room, with the optimist in it and see him whistling and smiling, shoveling shit. they ask him "why do you seem so happy digging in a room full of crap?" and so the optimist responds: "well, with all this shit around, i'm sure there's gotta a pony in here somewhere!".

cool party, good times!

had fun, despite some of the cheese :p - lol

as for Milo... : well, i played and didn't get paid either .. but i accepted that so that JS could afford to pay for his headliners .. had i known that someone was gonna be such a dick about it, i'd've said to JS: "gimme my cash, and if one of the headliners is wondering why 50$ is missing from his pay, tell him i have it" and then i would've told 'em: "yeah, i got my pay.. you want it? well, i'll roshambo you for it ... " :p

montreal: the vibes are great, the ravers are awesome, and the promoters are broke .. deal with it.

anyway, i was real happy to see a bunch of ppl i hadn't seen in a while.

ext was great, fuzzboy was cool, and the locals all kicked ass! host1, melo, deadfunk, plecko, golgo13, etc ...

thnx to cya and js for the party / having me play .. and host1 for the tokes ;)

hmm.. yeah, there might be as much bass as in a high-end prod, but also the fact that it's an mp3 doesn't help.. seems fine when i play it out, but i can always just add some more bass XD (i'm always worried about overloading the low frequencies, so i hold back a bit) ..

as for the off-beat sample, i realized that, but when i put the snares over it, i liked the flam effect, otherwise i would've just not put any percs on top of it.. but if ppl find it sounds messy or mistaken instead of done on purpose, i can always fix that..
