i dunno man .. if the 'kids' have expropriated the sound, so what? a new sound for a new generation. most styles of music start out cool, get popped, get generic, and then get cool again some years later with new influence and different (mostly better) production techniques.

ie. i like industrial alot, but there's alot of crap out there. doesn't mean the whole genre is shit.

i miss some of my 'older' friends at dubstep events too, and some of the next gen weren't raised proper and are just getting used to being high n' drunk, but that doesn't mean i can't have a good time despite them. (besides, i'm getting to know some of these youngens, in a non-creepy way XD )

as for being popular or commercial, well, there's d'n'b and breaks in car ads, techno everywhere, industrial in blockbuster matrix types movies, and all kinds of trance at 20,000 people parties 'round the world .. welcome to the future.

and btw, the kicks are fairly identical. in fact, i think the only thing that makes all those styles of trance what they are, is the kick. that same old (yet very nice) rubber sounding kick for the past, what, 10 years? when it's 'softer' trance, they just take the sharp edge off the kick, and there ya' go.

in the year 2000 ad, lines were being crossed (due to different styles of trance being created). in 2001, psy was taking over. in 2002, no more goa.

though the styles are slightly different, goa disappeared and since the sounds were similar, i don't think anyone noticed. psy became the 'in' trance, and that was that. now there are a dozen different types of it, and no more goa. probably also 'cause since goa does in fact carry it's name 'cause if it roots, and people from elsewhere were making it, they decided to be genuine and not use it's name, but keep it's fundamental concept.

now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

check out Bass Drive Wednesdays @ Belmont and/or Forward Music Thursdays @ Passeport. They're bar nights, but it'll give you a good idea for less cash than a big party. If you have a good time, then a party shouldn't be any different. There may be a lot of kids that aren't used to raving or whatever at the bigger events, so the vibe isn't all 'symbiotic karma' shit, but i doubt it's all that bad. Not everyone behaves themselves at parties anyway ;)

ugh .. there was not supposed to be any anti-psy sentiment here, i just asked that people not bash other styles in a 'BEST OF' thread. happy hardcore was included in that original negative statement, and i don't do happy, but i was still taken aback by the comment.

Don't get all paranoid now, psy-people! and don't worry, i won't list the 100s of things i've heard said and seen done by certain factions of the psy scene that maybe y'all are unaware of, that'd make you quiet down a bit ... anyway, i never said anything about the success of either scene! just asked not to get shit on. Yoshin turned this into a 'well, if your scene sucks work harder' argument. hard-stuff is doing just fine, thnx!

i like most types of techno. i've supported all the other scenes. my night did really well (and it wasn't just HC - there was even supposed to be psy too, but well, another night popped up) , and will continue to my standards when it comes back in the spring. i also like that the HC scene isn't as pop as the rest. i think we can all have a good time while we have our batcaves, and the rest dance on the grass above us. just remember, that doesn't make you above us.

anyway, peace and all that jazz .. didn't mean to turn this into a pissing contest, just wanted to ask the preachers to talk about love, not sin.

orly? i know, i created 8 months of hardcore nights. not my fault psy raves outnumbered the rest of the styles due to the sheer ridiculous amount of them that were thrown.
