wow .. though i don't use serato or whatever, i've been saying for months that they need to make a mixer with a lot of lines per channel, for CDJs, turntables, and soundcards. they finally did it! except for one thing that seems lame, only 2 phono lines .. o_O

i guess we only need 2 phono lines, but my idea was that if there was phono on every channel, then we could plug in the set-up as we wanted, y'know, to match the physical set-up:

if on the table we had CD - TT - Mixer - TT - CD , then we could plug line channel 1, phono channel 2 & 3, line channel 4 ... or whatever variation, depending on where you put the gear on the table.

oh well, still, a big step toward the future for mixers! it's about fucking time XD

I've put myself in debt, and/or spent the cash i had on-hand regardless of loss or profit, to pay my artists. There are others like that too ...

I'm also a Dj, I like getting paid once in a while - feels like you're appreciated, we live in a system where money is a reward, so that's that (plus our time and transportation expenses, which are traditionally covered for Headliners, but forgotten when it comes to locals). I lead by example. When it's my turn to Dj though, I never complain when I don't get paid, except to one or two close friends if I feel ripped-off given the situation ...

Anyway, it's the DJ's choice. If one day the person wants to play for free at a free event, sweet. If it's an event that's 5$ at the door, and they want 30$, it's nice and understandable. If it's a 30$ event, and they want 60$, that's generous. Problem is, promoters tend to think that if you accept one gig at a cheap price, then that's always your price, regardless of the cover charge or profit, and they are real happy that they saved a few bucks by booking you (i know that isn't the case in this thread, i'm just sayin') ... But the Dj decides when he plays for what price, it's his right, and his income is nobody's fuckin' business.

I've actually had DJs try to give their pay back to me, once they look around the room, see my expenses, and wonder why I'm paying them anyway. It almost makes me cry, to see that some people really care, and that they are aware of when a promoter really cares. When the DJ takes the cash, says thanks and takes off, that's cool too, 'cause I pay 'em for a reason, and they deserve it.

I don't like seeing dirty laundry out in public, but if this thread can be a lesson to promoters and/or DJs who take people for granted, then it served it's purpose.

Don't worry Moebius, when i book you I'll make sure your set is done before the last metro, so I don't have to pay for your fuckin' taxi .. :P haha! XD

Maybe without all the bullshit, more non-hippy types would go to psy events, 'cause like i keep saying, other people like the music too - the music doesn't belong to the scene. The whole "well our music is totally different so we don't interfere with anybody" is getting old. it's just not true.

All this so called 'hate' might just be a symptom of the over-saturation of the market ...

Anyway, yeah, cancellations are always sad - but the reason is important too. maybe those people cancelled for a reason that makes them happy, so why be all defensive about it ... unless you're ready to juice up the thread with some facts ! ;)

dude, i totally like a wide variety of music, not any one style is enough for me, like, y'know? i have like, 3 different ipods, set to shuffle, and like, it depends on the mood i'm in. like, when i drink my coffee, it's either folk from, like, the late '50s, or classical. totally, people need to listen to more classical .. it paved the way for many of my favorite bands, like, y'know, all that other stuff i listen to , glitch, dubstep, and idm and blues-rock, gotta respect the roots man! i dunno, i also like reggae to chill out with a latte, and i especially like acoustic stuff, but i think my favorite is stuff from the'80s, 'cause it was so innovative, and that's really important for me, they had a certain style, bowie was the shit, and billy idol, total punk, but punk isn't my fav, i like the laid back stuff, stuff that really gives you room to think. now, where did i put my giant-ass non-prescription glasses, 'cause i need to find that tune that you totally need to hear! you'll love it, it'll open you a new world .. it's on my ipod somewhere .. or maybe the other one, hold on ...

hmm.. maybe all those people already ARE pissed about all those things. In fact, they are. All the scenes complain about eachother and their interferences. If you were a promoter for a psy party, and then someone threw a happy party the same night, you'd be pissed too, i promise. Anyway, sometimes scenes bash eachother just for shits and giggles, the same way friends rip on eachother. And sometimes people are just simply frustrated. We don't live in a perfect world! This society was built on people shitting on eachother ...
