i think katakombes is kinda the new L'X, but it's on the shittiest block in MTL, and not as "shut-off" from the real world as L'x was, and is not as "fuck off" as you say Daf...But you can't beat the ol' BSL for trashiness...Unfortunately, MTL has systematically shut down or forcibly moved all the punk bars; as it's doing to the venues available for the techno-heads :(

sorry, i'm no help in finding the mystery bar...i tend to dislike bars anyway...

Try Atom Heart , corner St.Denis and Sherbrooke, i think (if it's still around); they have a decent selection of IDM and experimental stuff...

For hip-hop, well, i dunno...online like Vince says, or Paul's Boutique might have a gem or two, as mentioned...

oh yeah!...This event has been creeping up on us for months, and now, only 3 weeks and 6 days left...or 4 weeks and 1 day for those planning on just going to Phase 4, which is gonna be the most massive HC event of the year...so far :P

Can't wait to hear what The Dj Producer has to offer to MTL, and, of course, I'm curious about what the others (Manu, Lenny, Satronica) will bring us this time 'round... .. .

as usual, Breathe FTW...i damn near cried reading the comment...keep what he says in mind...

Once again, the reason why there was a failure in the scene to begin with, is the busts that took place a few years back. That did a number on the scene, and the city of MTL knows it, and did it on purpose. Unfortunately, through the aftermath of all that, all the knowledge holding ravers disappeared, leaving some to fend for the remainder, and slowly letting in a bunch of cracked out amateurs grabbing the flame and running with it, in turn running the scene into the ground (not under it, but in it). So, we have what's left, a bag of flaming crap, waiting for someone to put it out, and end up with shit all over their shoes. One the other hand, many promoters whose minds are intact, have been throwing some quality, fun, great, parties...

I still have faith that these promoters, along with some new ones that understand the nature of techno, will continue and be an example. Still, the main problem, i find, is that people still don't appreciate the music enough. Maybe that's cause the music is bad, or maybe it's cause the DJs aren't always good enough, or just cause people have other priorites for raving.

BTW, whether the scene is dead or not is of no importance. All scenes are dead. Just gonna have to live with that, and create something zombified; "And the dead shall walk the earth!"

haha, to answer the real question: i don't like the scene as much today, but i do like it, and believe that i will like it more again real soon... .. .

i wonder about the DJs who played the most sets while staying beatmatched for most of 'em.... ... .. .
