true...and that's pretty much what i was writing until my 'puter crashed :P (mais je ne suis pas d'acc que le freeform en fait parti)

So, gabber is in the same family, but is a disticnt subgenre (kicks, claps and other percs at the same time + military riddim + synth melodies)...But it does get annoying to divide everything up into sub-categories, 'cause in the end, distorted kicks = hardcore...On the other hand, it's hard for me to say that a DJ is great if they only play one of the many styles that HC has to offer...

That said, the best HC DJs that i've WITNESSED are : Hellfish, Dj Producer, Satronica, Tense, Lenny Dee, Lowtek, Mutante, ManuLeMalin, and Jen Mas... ...They plays it they way me likes it :P

As for non-HC Djs, Jeff Mills is by far one of the best...

Yeah, that WAS yesterday, at Kinetik :P ...wasn't perfect (nothing is, really), but solid, high quality, and kick ass... hope you'll excuse my bias on this one ;) ...couldn't help but mention it...

Yeah, we all miss ManuLeMalin, and hope he feels better soon, for those unaware, he couldn't make it due to medical problems, but a detailed explanation will surely be given by Manu and the promoters soon enough...

BTW, A DVD of the Usine C shows is being made...

HOLY SHIIIIIT!!!...The whole event was incredible, all those live industrial bands, all those crazy people... Unfortunately I missed all of Saturday at the Usine C 'cause i was busy at TheatreSansFils, but Phases 1 & 2 were kick ass; too many bands to review, so lets just say they were all great...

Now, Phase 4 ::: Every single one of the guests delivered, and then some....a kick ass set by Satronica, then Lenny Dee (his best MTL set ever), followed by an awesome first-time-in-MTL set by Outside Agency, who then tagged with Producer (!), and then a wicked performance by the Dj Producer...and lets not forget Mutante's excellent live set earlier in the night, with his wonky, revamped turntable effects... ...The sound was gigantic, visuals were very cool, venue was as nice as it always is, and a shitload of people dancing like mad rounds up the night...Now THAT was a party! :P

Thanks so much to Kyo and Kao putting this whole thing together, and thanks to everyone else who gave a huge helping hand, especially Lucas, Dave, and Rich...

Hope you all had alot o' fun, 'cause this was alot o' work....i just slept a bunch, takin' a day off, like everyone else, then it's back to life as we knew it... .. .

well, some of us are able to keep a balance between DJing and promoting :P ...but, as usual, it helps when things are done by people who know what they are doing and who do things for the right reasons... ...At least when the promoter is a DJ, there might actually be better chances that the dj stuff might be set-up properly....well, maybe... .. .

Mel + V2-1 on equipment: ex-fucking-actly, I've been complaining about equipment issues for years, and always felt that my complaints were heard as excuses...I'm glad I'm not alone in the fight for a decent set-up...A good mixer instead of an extra strobe light or silly deco anyday!..and SOUNDCHECKS before the 3rd DJ has already started his set and nothing works right...

Long sets : I like the 1 hour format, though an hour and a half would be better, and if people are worried about the DJ not being liked enough for the full 90 minutes, just stop hiring shitty sub-par DJs ...

$$$: always a problem, 'cause we can't afford food or new music, both of which are detrimental to a DJ's life...

Variety: yes, to a certain extent, make sure the moods fit, the bpm difference ain't too drastik, and stop booking hardcore in the morning (unless it's a full out HC party already) ... I've seen line-ups with , like, trance at 5am and HC at 7am...makes no sense! Why does this happen? Because DJs aren't booked for the right reasons, you know, like, musical reasons... ...what I love about Hardcore is that within it's own genre, there are hundreds of styles and sub-genres and different tempos, that can work within the same context, yet deliver variety, so you can have an all-HC night withou it sounding the same all night (depending on your Djs, of course). Now, I'm not putting down other styles, and i know they have their own sub-genres, but they seems to share the same tempo or basic rules...

Anyway, so many good points to address in this thread. I love it when we get together and face the facts :P

Last: I really hope a bunch of promoters are reading this thread. It should be re-edited and drawn up into a fucking manual... .. .
