It's 'cause we have nothing to hide, and are fearless ;) ... but I understand the concern. With a more popular site, one that's global like Facebook, I'd hate to have my IP posted. But here ... who cares? If someone was going to abuse the info, they'd've done it a long time ago.

On the definite upside (and IMO the main reason for it), having IP addresses posted has saved us from alot of 'net Trolls. This also stops potential Trolls from having 2 or more profiles without us knowing, and also deters ppl from trying to hijack another account. We have enough drama as it is, we don't need ppl being anonymous about it and/or making it worse xD

Y'see, making some information public can be used as much for protection as for evil ;)

So, as said, if you don't like it then don't post (well, too late for that xD ) ... and let us worry about our rights. We're all pretty rebellious people (and fairly Internet savvy), so if it bothered us we would tell Noah and he would get rid of the IP line.

Well, the new year is upon us ... so, what were your most memorable parties/raves/events ?

What were your favorite acts/shows/DJs ?

What were your modern day discoveries, your picks for best artists of 2011 ?

What were your partying highlights of this past year?

(don't have to answer ALL of those xD )

The events that had a impact on me this year were Kinetik-Fest, Heroes-Vs.-Villains, CTRL ATL DEL (seeing Unexist play was too wicked), and playing BassDrive last week ... good times! good music!

Honestly though, 2011 was a fairly shitty year; music is general was pretty static .. but I discovered some artists like Tymon, got some new records, threw a party, moved my radio show to Datagram, made some nice tracks, and got a decent amount of gigs, so I guess I can't complain too much! - as long as we leave personal/non-musical stuff out of the equation :p

... et vous?

'Twas the night before X-Mas, when all through the house
no music was playing, not even some House;
The fat-pants were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Techolas soon would be there;
The Ravers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of glow-sticks danced in their heads;
And mistress in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a short pot-head's nap,
When out on the street there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the fuckin' matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tearing open the shutters, throwing down my stash.

The moon on the tits of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of black-lights to objects below,
When, what to my reddening eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny rave-deer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew it must be that speed-freak St. Tech!
More rapid than speed-core his coursers they came
He didn't whistle, but shouted and called them by name;
''Now Dubstep! now Hardcore! now Psytrance and House!
On, Techno! on Electro! on, Drum and on Bass!
To the top of the venue! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!''
As dry heaves that before the wild puking fly,
When they meet with the porcelain, then wiped with 2-ply,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With a sleigh full of gear, and St.Techolas too.
And then, very confused, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my breath, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St.Techolas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fun-fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all dirty with ashes and soot;
A bundle of records he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a DJ just opening his pack.
His pupils -- how enlarged! His dimples how merry!
His teeth were grinding, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin bleached white as the snow;
The stump of a joint he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face, and a little round E,
That he popped then he laughed like a bowlful of glee.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly elf,
And he started placing records up on the shelf;
A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had fuck all to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Plugged in the turn-tables; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his thumb under his nose,
And giving a sniff, up his chimney K rose;
He tripped to his sleigh, to his team said ''No whistles!'',
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
''Happy Raving to all, may it last the whole night!''

Breakbeat Hardcore, like slow hard breakbeats, 'round 140 bpm -- as in: not fast like breakcore (180+bpm) ?

That stuff is pretty rare honestly. I could put a quick mix together, but it'll only be 6 songs long xD

You'd have to go straight to the source and just get actual tunes and not mixes ... try old Noize Creator, and some old Torgul is breaky, as well as some Dr. Macabre. You might find more of that kind of sound in the rhythmic noise scene, certain tracks by ppl like Winterkalte, Converter, and Iszoloscope.

Otherwise you need to look into Hard Breaks, of which I don't know much about, unfortunately.

I'm sure Fishead would have some great suggestions though ... .. .

I see JazzStep making it big. I see a new niche market: Core-a-billy (rockabilly / hardcore hybrid). Also, in the entire metal/rock world, the Wah-pedal is gonna make a huge comeback.

There will be failed attempts at other new types of amalgamated musical styles: Soulka, Bluesaton, Drum'n'Bass'n'Accordian, Psy-Hop, Happy Ambient, and Celine Dion will make a Death Metal album.

I was trying to work on SurfCore, but it's a daunting task and I don't think it'll surface until 2013.

Oh, and PunkStep.

Well, you talk about corporations, and a corp. has, by law, a mandate to maximize it's profits.

If profit is not your motive, then having a corporate type business plan for Psy scene should not be your goal.

If you want to legalize Raves, you must legalize the use of venues past 3am. 'Cause, being a Raver isn't illegal (you can't go to jail for listening to Techno) the only thing the City has us on is that we dance all night in a place that we aren't 'permitted' to. Get the City to allow temporary 'after-hour/dance' permits for one night events for any given venue, and we're good.

Anyway, through all your vague tripped-out statements, I gather that you want Psy Inc., with people investing (ie. buying shares) and that you will then redistribute profits (ie. to the shareholders). That's a corporation, and honestly I firmly believe that that kind of aggressive capitalist behavior has no place in the Rave scene. You want to start a musically oriented business? Open a bar or start a music label, both of which are helpful / viable / legitimate business ideas. Or, again, fight for our right to legally occupy a venue and dance for the night.

I'm sure you have good intentions ... but before you get all defensive again, remember you asked for help, and I give it to you in the form of an opinion.

ps. Of course, you can do whatever the fuck you want ;)

Psytrance Inc. ?

I really don't think incorporating Raves is a valid solution ... you can incorporate your Production company though that's fine, and been done. But if you really wanna put energy toward making the scene into a viable business, look toward legitimizing the Raves in the eyes of the Government/Police/Populace instead - that'll open doors for everyone, and you won't have to sue for copyright violations (unless your point is to have some corporate monopoly over the scene). heh.

That's too true ... even in the documentary film 'the Corporation' they did a psychological test on the concept of corporations themselves, treating them as if they were a person - since that is how a corporation is treated in the legal system - and concluded that if a corporation was a real person, they'd be clinically psychopathic. So, it's no surprise that the people running these companies are also possibly psychopaths themselves.

What kind of sociopathic asshole do you have to be to try to profit from every person in existence?

And Godlfesh, indeed! They put out a dub-remixed version of Love and Hate, in '98 (yes, actual dubbed out remixes of sludgy metal) and I highly doubt they were influenced by fuckin' Korn ... in fact, the dude from Godlfesh was originally in Napalm Death, along with Mick Harris then, who went on to do Scorn, which is very Dub/Industrial, in the early/mid 90s ...

I guess what I'm saying is that were metal bands actually amalgamating dubby stuff and metal stuff, 'round the same time as Korn says they were making 'bass heavy / half time' beats. SO, conclusion, they didn't invent shit, and I'll reiterate that there are tons of half-time bass heavy tunes and none of them were necessarily an influence on dubstep. Otherwise, I could argue that Led Zeppelin's When the Levee Breaks is the first dubstep song ever, heh.

Originally Posted By gamos

So, no, one cannot argue that, and neither should Korn themselves. What bunch of ego-maniacal goofs.

Making aggressive music for the kids has been the norm since the dawn of rock'n'roll in the 50s/60s ... it's really not surprising that dubstep got the dirty treatment, and that the kids are loving it.

Hell, I love nasty mean aggressive dubstep. The problem for me isn't in the sounds produced, it's in the song writing.

Bands like Ministry and Atari Teenage Riot were the ones to make waves crossing over electronics and metal riffs. Having glowsticks in a 'metal' show doesn't exactly translate to innovation. Korn is just desperate for attention.

Hate is normal? why, or what is normal about hate? Unless you have a crummy life and are surrounded by mean and spiteful peoples.

Hate is a survival instinct? Fear might be a normal survival instinct. Fear is what tell you to gtfo as quick as possible, thus protecting your life.

Hate however will push you to seek revenge or even be the aggressor and take the risk of injury and needless and unwanted collateral harm and destruction.

True, to a certain extent.

Like I said, there's misplaced hatred, and useful hatred ... I admit, it's a fine line - and a hard one to draw for those who haven't already walked it.

Hate is definitely normal. What about those people who have a great life, but still 'hate' the guy on TV for selling them bullshit. They won't let it ruin their day, but they won't pay attention to the asshole and give in either. Maybe to hate is to be aware of that which seeks to abuse you.

And hey, there plenty of things that are normal but aren't necessarily good ;)

Anyway, I'm tired of people hating on hate! It's part of who we are and you can either deal with it, or ignore it (and if you ignore the cause/effect, then you can't find the root of the problem).

Of course, if what you feel all the time is only hatred, despising every single thing, then yes, it's dangerous and needs to be dealt with.

But if we could survive on perpetual happiness, bad things wouldn't happen ...

Agreed ... I've always said 'The more I hate people, the more love I have for those I like' xD

At some point, hate is normal, one of the survival instincts. If someone displeases you greatly, you hate them, and that keeps you aways from them, as they are potentially detrimental to your well-being.

The problem is, alot of hate is mis-placed. Like, if you hate (easy example) pro-abortionists, just 'cause they go against your core values, you're hating for nothing, since those people don't have a directly negative effect on your actual life - like say some asshole who's always douchy to you might.
So, ''omg, those people are killing babies, I hate them'' is wrong, since there's no adverse affect on your own personal life (they aren't killing YOUR babies). ''I hate that guy, he's always an asshole to me and tries to cock-block me'' is fine, it makes you more careful of their actions, more aware of their negative affects on your life, and you can therefore avoid them.

Hat is powerful, but if you think that it's the only thing that make you make dumb emotional moves, think about all the stupid things you've done for love !

IMHO ;) ... (the H stands for 'hateful' :p )

hahaha!!! Korn takes credit for Dubstep!? wow ... I'm impressed ... o_O

Honestly, I never liked Korn. When I was diggin' neo-metal it was either System Of A Down or Deftones or Vision Of Disorder -- and even then, those bands were more 'alternative'. I hated Disturbed, Korn, Limp Bizkit or whatever ... garbage! It was just pop-ified metal, seemingly influenced more by Manson than anything else - and a poor mimic at that.

Dubstep isn't just about half-time + bass ... that's a gross oversimplification, and you can't possibly believe that anything with a half beat and lots of bass was a predecessor to dubstep. Y'know what proto-dubstep was? DUB! For fuck's sakes ...

(and if they really did make proto-Dubstep, why do they need Skrillex to make songs with them now, eh?)

The problem is that those who control the wealth/economy will see this as a win, once again helped big-time by government intervention (this time the police and booting ppl out of the occupations, last time from bail-outs and such), and not only will they continue doing what they do, they will feel even more empowered. But, the people have spoken and there are clearly many socio-economic issues that need to be addressed, unfortunately they won't be, 'cause ''the man'' won ...

Analogy: A bully gets surrounded by his victims, tired of his shit, but the school teachers stop the scene before the fight breaks out, and the bully taunts 'nanny-nanny-boo-boo' and becomes worse than ever, knowing the other students are powerless.

But I'm just happy a bunch of people got together to fuck shit up, 'cause chaos, etc. I'm glad that informed people were standing up and speaking out. It's awesome that citizens 'round the world united behind this ...

Unfortunately, the sheer number of people with too many (and many unrelated) agendas caused major problems, and made it impossible to have a common goal.

One thing that happened in Montreal that was disturbing and doomed the fate of the protesters was that apparently they refused the homeless people entry to their site, even asking for police intervention for this ... so wrong. In NYC on the other hand, they worked with the homeless, and they various 'associations'. In fact, NYC has the best chance at any kind of success, it is the root of the whole ordeal after all.

Anyway, it's just good to know that it isn't just a handful of punks that are sick and tired of how things are run, and perhaps now more people are aware of the faults in the system. I don't think anything will change, but it's nice to have have witnessed a global movement that wasn't based on religion or some shit, to see people finally trying to fight economic oppression.

People in positions of power have always hoarded the wealth, don't expect humans to change after thousands of years of sameness.
