look at hiphop culture from the beginning....stolen power for sound systems, stolen music (samples), graffiti on the subway systems (which was considered vandalism at the time and destruction of property) among other things. all that shit came from a very few people that were actually considered criminal and mindless. sure there were some nasty things going on at that time which hurt the cause of those that truly needed to express themselves in a good way ...but it was all a reflection and expression of what people thought of the society they lived in at the time.

now look at how we "see" hiphop

sometimes good comes from illegal activity....sometimes not.

... You think what happened yesterday WASN'T mindless and unproductive?

Naah but seriously, I do see your point, and I'd be the first one challenging the status quo (and "legality") if I felt it was warranted. Then again, seeing as I'm not so antisocial and removed from the rest of society, I'm pretty sure others would see my actions for what they are and join in, therefore legitimizing my (our) actions.

Now challenging legality for personal gains... Doubtful, IMHO.
And don't give me that "what if someone steals a loaf of bread to feed his/her family" crap, that's a whole other subject. As is hip-hop, and what it now stands for.

Bleh, it's not like I aced it, unfortunately. First exam ever with documentation allowed, yet filling 10-15 pages was hard, hence the 100ish people left when the exam ended.

Clown, you're right about getting the facts straight before passing judgment, but IMHO, it's a safe bet that, on the basis of past experiences:

1. Some cops might've taken crowd control a bit too far.
2. Some fans might've taken demonstrating their joy as an excuse to break and steal stuff.

Update » Masa wrote on Tue Apr 22, 2008 @ 12:09pm
Not necessarily in that order.

As a side note, arrête de me piquer mon rôle Pat, c'est moi la victime ici. Ask Tam.

J'sais pas pourquoi, mais toi et Daf z'aimez bien argumenter entre vous, non? J'mets pas le blâme sur personne, j'attends juste que vous atteignez un consensus... As usual :)

Databoy, I'm pretty sure there are more rapes than murders, hence this feeling I have that some rapists think that what they're doing is "less worse" than killing someone.

Doesn't change the fact that both acts are evil, IMHO.

Yeah well most of these countries have next to no land lines, so impressive cellphone networks were installed to compensate. Same with China...

No worries, we'll pick up the pace and now we'll have people complaining about cellphone towers in their backyard and the negative effects thereof.

Hey, if only it was that easy, I'd get regular shipments going. I mean, I can think of a few wines I wouldn't mind paying 2-3€ (finally, a use for that € laptop key!) instead of 20-30$... But as soon as you'd declare it as alcohol, you'd end up paying duties at the border, essentially bringing your savings down (if any).

Heh, I'll post a report from [ dslreports.com ] from my tabletop eventually, results would be skewed by this crappy 11mpbs wireless router.

And yeah, IIRC, it was a mix of beer, vodka, absinthe (the real shit) and pequet (sp?), a cinnamon-flavored specialty from Liège, Belgium, also apparently available in other flavors such as peach; you light it up and drink it through a straw while it's still flaming. In the 20% range, but you'd think it was juice, goes down real well.

Oh and weed, lotsa weed.

What a night. Can't wait for summer to do that again.

Nah, it's pretty stable. I got scared for a week when Bell announced they'd be throttling their resellers' service, and torrents DID slow to a crawl. Then, for no reason, it got back to normal, and I haven't noticed slowdowns ever since.

I mean, it's not the fastest ISP out there. But I consistently get 450-500 kb/s on torrents (as long as they're somewhat well-seeded), so it suits me. The fact that it's unlimited/not bound by contract is also a plus. I might just be lucky though.

... And regarding my avatar, what's it to you? :)

AEI. 5mbps DSL, unlimited downloads, 29,95+tx (39,95 if you don't have a land line).

Most people diss AEI, but I have to say I've never encountered any problems with 'em. No contract, acceptable DL/UL speeds and no limits. Fun for torrents.
