Heh, indeed, PS2 DOESN'T have a 3-prong power cable!

Alright, so yeah, it obviously must be grounded somewhere, but I still think that cable he was talking about is the one connecting the power/eject buttons to the motherboard :)

But thanks for the refresher course in physics, Screwhead :)

Errr, right. My bad. Ground WOULD be connected to the motherboard, but from the motherboard to a plastic case?
'sides, aren't most high-end devices grounded through the electrical outlet?

Disconnected as in "ripped apart"? IIRC, that thin cable simply connects to the power/eject buttons, but if it's been ripped apart, it's gonna be a bitch finding a replacement.

I've seen second-hand PS2s at the EBGames on St-Hubert/Jean-Talon 'bout a month ago. Can't recall the price though.
You'd be better off simply calling the individual stores to see if they have some in stock.

Nah, Gamos got his numbers out of his ass.
But for the record, you were the one trying to prove your case with numbers ;) (and not really reliable ones at that, but I'll agree that these "official" records are pretty much the best we can get from a "war zone" and a puppet government).

So yeah, it IS a question of point of view and personal beliefs and I'll keep mine to myself from now on. But I'll say one last thing: military blunders and abuse of power is not limited to the US Army, those made by Canadian Forces (and all other military forces around the world) are perhaps simply less visible.

Now consider any soldier that's there to help innocent people. He receives a DIRECT ORDER to infiltrate a building with a " weapons free " directive and shoot down ANY TARGETS ON SIGHT knowing full well that the building contains civilians.

That soldier has 2 choices :

1 - he does his JOB and DUTY as instructed which is to CARRY OUT ANY ORDERS GIVEN TO HIM by his superiors and never discuss decisions made by such officers, and proceeds to enter the building and do his " job " ( suprise ! That's how the army works, buddy ). Results : he slaughtered 5 innocent afghans families.

2 - he DISOBEYS that direct order, gets arrested by the MP, is court martialed and imprisoned. Results : his conscience is clear but he's rotting in jail.

Am I the only one who sees the utter FAILURE in this ? Am I the only one who sees a soldier is NOT a single unit, in control of his actions over there ?

+1 You are not alone.

Thing is, I agree with that as well.

... And in the world of 10ish year-old kids wielding AK-47s, or even in the context of civilian/guerrilla warfare, can you confirm that the rules of engagement don't include "civilians" that MIGHT appear armed?

What makes you think that any soldier (US, CAN or otherwise) won't have to make a judgment call, and might end up killing a harmless civilian in the process? What makes you think he won't be exonerated if there was even a tiny shred of circumstantial evidence that the civilian could've been armed?

I think you're delusional. We're way past the era of Pearson/Blue Berets/UN Peacekeeping missions here.

Update » Masa wrote on Wed Apr 23, 2008 @ 8:27pm
Heh, I think that's the brunt of the issue. I don't think of Afghanistan as a reconstruction mission anymore. And I don't agree with our presence there in the first place.

M-A-X, seriously, I don't think that kill counts prove that the Canadian Forces are any better than their US counterparts.

Fact is, through NATO, Canadian Forces have been engaged in a combat mission. With orders to kill. You can't expect everyone to be happy about that simply because "our army kills less, therefore they're better".

If you feel our presence in Afghanistan is justified, fine. Don't try to force that opinion onto others, please.

exactly what I'm on about. think about it...it's all legal and good when it makes a ton of coin and every sheep needs it and therefore it must be protected. I'm not saying hiphop 1978 is the same as hiphop today in anyway....but it did start out as an expression through illegal means that cultivated all sorts of great things we love today. but yeah, I couldn't agree with you more.

@ Masa "Now challenging legality for personal gains... Doubtful, IMHO" - check into Ayn Rand, she has some interesting points that would say it should ALL be for personal gains and that in turn benefits the masses.

OK - I would never torch or break or vandalize anything or hurt anyone on purpose. I hope I'm clear on that. but isn't this the second time that cop cars have been burned in a month or something...right at a cop station a couple of weeks ago? doesn't this mean anything to people? isn't there a message in those actions? I don't condone them really....but I prop up and check it out and think about it because it may mean something deeper than what the media, our family and peers lead us to believe. That's all I'm trying to say.

I'm really not sure I'm following you, but it might be just me. That being said:

As for hip hop, I personally don't enjoy much of it, especially the gangsta variety. And while it may have evolved from an "illegal activity", I'm not a fan of the culture the "legal" variety spawns.

As for Ayn Rand, I've never read her work, but I fail to see how a partisan of market capitalism would advocate theft, which is what I was implying by challenging legality.

As for the burning cars, I think you're trying too hard to see a meaning between these two incidents. Again, just my opinion, but couldn't it be that the mediatization of torched police cars simply gave the idea to rioters to torch some last night?

I mean, with all due respect, it's good to look for symbolism and all, but I think you're giving way too much credit to the (stupid) people last night.

... As for looting, well... I'd be tempted, yeah. Not sure I would've done it though. But I'd be tempted
