Definitely one of the best parties this year. Without a doubt the best hard as fuck. E.N.D.'s set was my personnal favorite, I haven't danced that much in quite a while.

You're right, but people would stay in the scene if it felt a bit more special. You gotta promote, and you also gotta offer an original product.

I've seen people play a guitar in the metro, and I've seen people come in with weird costumes. As long as the rules are respected, it can be done. Personnally, I think the idea's crazy enough to work.

The fact that most raves seem to be nothing more than parties that go on after 3, and few ravers believe in PLUR anymore doesn't help. People need to dress up, do crazy stuff, make it feel like it's a god damn rave. It's easy for people to lose interest when the very thing that made raves special is dissapearing.

You got a good point there. Raving just isn't cool anymore. However, some people will always be attracted to it, just like some people are still heavily into punk. However, with less ravers, come less opportunities to throw events. As for the drugs part, well, we can't blame kids for being smarter. Once every two months or so is acceptable, but popping pills every weekend is dangerous, and more and more kids realize that.

I guess the only thing we can do is to continue to support the scene, and the people like Dave who make it alive. Yes, some parties won't make it, and we'll probably come to a point where less events will happen. It's all in the evolution of the scene, a scene wich has seen it's greatest days. Just like underground disco or rock and roll still exists, raves will become smaller, and less frequent.

Keith is right, bars and afterhours (and raves too) need to have indoor smoking areas. The smoking ban is hurting the scene, wether we like it or not. Many smokers just won't enjoy parties like they used too. In the long term, people will just stop smoking, and people who weren't interested in going out to parties might be more interested. For now, however, we're having parties where half the people are outside. I'm not even going inside the risk that a party gets busted due to too many noize made by smokers outside.

As for what Clown said, yes, it's a big problem we have right now. Promoters in Montreal are thowing a party every two months. This way, we got a scene full of smaller parties, and it's easier to skip a smaller party than a big one.

Now don't get me wrong, big doesn't mean international headliner and 20$ tix. Parties such as Rewire or I love Montreal both have line up made exclusively of locals. The secret is in promotion. If everyone says it's gonna be big, than it's gonna be the biggest party ever. This is what happened with the first rewire, that started out as a small party, and ended up with 650 attendance.

This definitely isn't directed at Dave. I've been to a lot of parties recently, while promoting for Time Machine, and I've seen a lot of parties with really low attendance. Sadly, this is the general way the scene works now.
