Most of the time, raving sober means not doing hard drugs, that means no pills, coke, acid, shrooms, heroin or any hard stuff. Pot and alcohol are cool. Both of them are drugs though. Still, it's not really considered "getting high" by the rave scene.

I rave sober all the time. Ever since I stopped, I just don't feel the need to do drugs. Even if it's offered freely, I say no. Throwing a rave was the motivation for me. I knew I needed to quit in order to do good promotion, and it worked. You just gotta find your own motivation.

Anyone going? We might rent a car if we can't find a ride, but we'd like someone with a car. If anyone's interested, you can reply here, pm me or email me at Infoprojectmayhem@gmail.com

That's a good poing Basdini, 2 rooms with hardcore, or 2 rooms drum & bass is pretty useless. The fun in having a second room is having anohter kind of music. This way you can listen to something else when you're no longer in the mood for the music playing in the first room. Also, it brings two different crowds together.

Actually, if enough people are hyped, they create the good vibe. A vibe isn't made of lights or decorations, the ravers make it alive. If enough ravers say it's gonna be awesome, then it is gonna be awesome. The promoter has very little to do with the actual vibe, he can only convince the ravers to bring it.

Ryan, I think Union française can't be rented anymore. I've heard they didn't get paid or had smilar fuck ups with other promoters that made them stop renting. It sucks, the place was really nice.

Deadfunk, t'as raison.

Peter, you're right. Having place to sit down confortably can really make a difference at a party. I rave sober too, and I always need to relax at some point during the night. I'd place the chillroom in the "little things that make a difference" category, that I mentioned in one of my earlier posts.

Overall, it's easy, you just gotta put the effort into it, and a lot of promoters are too lazy. (not pointing any fingers) Just throwing a party takes minimal effort, but making it really special does require a promoter to get up and work hard.

My personnal trick to fight jadedness is to look at younger ravers and "show them around" a bit. Right now, my roommate is making himself a candy outfit. I gave him some of my older stuff and listen to him being hyped up about upcoming parties. It reminds me of what first got me into this scene, and actually hypes me up too. Also, throwing parties allows me to share what I love about raves with others. In a way, I'm trying to give back to the scene for all the fun that I had back in the days.

Actually, it was more the actual effort of decorating the place that impressed people. The decoration concept at Time Machine was actually splitting the venue in 3. The area next to the bar (it was at fractal) was separated with a curtain. It was decorated with UV reactive stuff, and they were blacklight. This area was the chill room. There was a pacman game, and place for people to chill and rest a bit. Then, there was dance floor. Visuals where projected directly on the people, creating some sort of "vortex" effect, that fitted with the time travel theme. The last area was around the bathroom and coat check. These where the spots in the rave with not blacklight or spotlights, where people could talk and get "away" from the excitement of the dancefloor or the chillroom. There was also a timeline surrounding the venue, with flyers from many of Montreal's raves.

Overall, the decoration was made to look impressive, while it was quite unexpensive. We played around with the theme, and also tried reminding people of the flyer's design. I also can't take all the credit for this. Most of the work was done by Aerial Raver, and it couldn't have been done without her hard work and ideas.

Talk to me on msn if you want ideas, i can help you out :)

I know what you mean, Fred. I lost my grandfather recently, and while I was sad that I wouldn't see him again, I was actually happy for him. He lived a good life, and he had been suffering for too many years now. Life must go on. Being sad is ok, but crying about it all the time is just plain annoying. Each and everyone of us will experience the loss of loved ones more than once. We should get used to it, else your life just gets centered around loss.

Well, I can say that a lot of people at Time Machine told me they were impressed by the decorations and free fruits. Little details like that can really make a difference. This is the kind of things that can set your event apart from all parties happening every weekend. I also found that good promotion helps create a hype, making the party even better.

I did find out that a lot of people who are natural leaders don't care about music that much. It does seem weird for all of us posting here, as obviously music is important for all of us. I mean, how many people on this website just watch the big hollywood movies and don't even know about independent films? Same goes for music. People just have different interests.

The music is pretty different. The vibe tends to be alike. Might be a little bit more of a "meat market" in afterhours, but overall I've met as much cool people in raves as in clubs. I've also met ass holes and idiots in both.

It seems like being bitter and jaded is cool now. Might be just me, but it seems like kids look up to jaded ravers as "cool" and want to be like them. Let's face it, teenagers who get into the scene often look at older people as models. It's just the feeling I get out of the scene.

Yeah, but a lot of people don't care that much about music, so they are gonna listen to the music they're told they should like. Radio does dictate a lot of people's taste in music.
