I'm also not concerned about gigs, because I'm not playing the popularity game over here. I've actually got originality, which a lot of people find hard to deal with, I don't play gigs because this city isn't really up to scruff with the global breakcore scene, and I don't offend easily, because I know I don't have the generic sound you're looking for. So I mean, you can go on and on about my lack of gigs out here but you'd have to consider if I'm even feeling like it. I could go out there and play the wrong parties, I could promote myself like an egomaniac, I could run around insisting to everyone that I'm the best, but I don't. Because I'm humble. I wrote the stuff myself, and the people who I want to have listening to it like it. The ones who aren't going to be into it don't really have to hear it. So rather than futilely try to convert a bunch of people or convince them of anything, I go where my good sense tells me I should to get gigs. When I play Toronto, I play a bunch of parties with a bunch of other people you've never heard of, but they have good, solid support, they know how to party, the labels are equitable and fair in their means, and everyone is honestly connected instead of stroking each others' egos. At least I still have an idea of what it means to be underground. I'm sure that you think we can somehow compare your shit DJ mixes to my productions, but that wouldn't be fair, considering you just promote, you don't create. And you rehash oldies. I write stuff that's far too avant-garde to be acceptable in a scene that isn't made up of ex-metal, punk, and jungle types, and seeing as I cater more to the shock-art scene, people doing video cutups, visceral sensory overloads, whatever it takes to actually be interesting and stimulating. I've run into tons of disapproval and I've just been like "meh, maybe I want to remaster that" or "ok, write a new track" or even "fuck em, I like it". I'm sure you have no idea what it's like to have that sort of self-confidence, because you need to do these constant mix-spams to get attention. I however have been acting carefully and getting myself involved with everyone I know writing similar music, booking shows, talking to labels, and taking criticism like a man. Gigs.
