Truthfully VHS is so lossy it's regarded in the film community as a relic. People are still using Beta because it doesn't degrade as much... however this is strictly for production and archiving it seems. But that grainy quality will really only come through in a nice way if it had to do with the stock used to film your horror flick. The problem is really the remastering. They spend a lot of time removing noise and grain and any other imperfections so that you lose that old drive-in aesthetic. the menus are sort of interesting, but only on some titles, and honestly I have yet to ever watch a movie with the running commentary on. Special features can be really excessive sometimes.

Worst thing too is that magnetic tape manufacturing is becoming an obsoleted industry. You can't even find the good old 1/2 inch tape for BR-20 reel-to-reels anymore. David Lynch just went digital. But I find it hard to believe that the entire film industry will, even though it seems inevitable.

What if you photocopy your flyer, then cut it with scissors? Anybody still do that? Anybody? Anybody?

Hey man, there's a simple and classic film-school solution to your woes. Get a projector. And try to find your old b-movies on film... but considering the cost of that, maybe it's best to just turn down the gamma a whole lot.

Either that or try to find scarier, more disturbing films to watch. If not scarier, go for weirder.

Opera is good for people who work with digital image a lot. The zooming in feature is also cool for porn, if you can't get high res, you can still feel like the guy holding the speculum. But it mostly sucks. Page loading is sketchy and sometimes I feel like I'm using a retarded version of the internet, especially with all those useless widgets for it.

Firefox is still the best, I'd have to say, but IE doesn't merit discussion.

I was hanging out at Place Des Arts totally oblivious to all this bullshit and all of the sudden there were choppers and cops everywhere. The cops knocked over some garbage cans, and this mob ran up, set up barricades, and then a bunch of teenage wannabe provocateurs started tearing boards and bricks off the scaffolding of the mall and made themselves look tough. So they started throwing the bricks at cops, the cops ran up with riot shields, and the crowd dispersed in all directions. I knew better than to follow the main mob because I didn't want to get lumped in with the shithead kids who made a scene and were obviously trying to provoke a beating from the cops. Saw two idiots with fucking Guy Fawkes masks trying to be anon IRL... so pathetic. Teenage angst and stupid attempts at direct action. This was not a protest, it was a mess. And I'm totally on the side of the cops. YOU DON'T TEAR DOWN SCAFFOLDING AND THROW ROCKS AT COPS. Just plain stupid. Fuckers get what they deserve. It doesn't suddenly justify all the cases of police brutality but this was not one of those cases where the cops were excessive. You had a crowd of drunken punks trying to start shit and most of them aren't even 18 yet. Grow the hell up, get a life... It makes everyone who actually knows how to make a difference via correct and legal actions against oppression look bad and disorganized, and ruins any sort of argument that could have been made intelligently. Wow man, I really can't believe you guys would say the characters are underdeveloped. I didn't see that at all. I felt rather refreshed to not have to get all sorts of typical Hollywood introspection in order to create sympathy with characters who are basically satires of popular comic book heroes.

For this reason I was fine with the fact that we didn't have any sort of sympathetic character in which to relate. This was really refreshing. Granted, having a bit of the Black Freighter or Under the Hood elements would have lent some fullness but I rather liked how the film came across as a finale of characters we never really get to see in their primes. This was one of the things that worked well in the book. We are seeing everyone in their endgame.

The fact that dialogue and cinematography were plucked from the book was rather visually stunning and I liked knowing that the average superhero movie fan would be experiencing a major WTF throughout. I dunno, I'm a huge fan of this flick. I even thought the elimination of the squid was an excellent move.

Perhaps I just like film that defies expectation.

If you didn't read the comic book, then you won't understand the film. Quite simple.
