Just to inform anybody (most of you) who doesn't understand the scene politics with this one:

The Big Bop is a big drug dive where anybody and everybody has thrown some sort of rave, with a long history of hosting monthly parties for Queen street kids, who are mostly welfare junkies, unfortunately.

Darkrave used to be cool, sort of, well, no it wasn't but I went to a bunch of them anyways, especially when I was working for TRIP.

It was a night for gravers, trying to bridge the gap between raves and industrial parties (of which there are tons in Toronto in that area, most notably at Velvet Underground), and they used to appropriate the turn-of-the-millenium psy craze in Toronto, so it's typical that they would try to get into the burgeoning breakcore scene, given the strength of the producers in Toronto doing this.

Before you knew it, there was a slightly better party called R351570R (get it, resistor in 1337), and the Smerk ;-) crew did a side room for a good deal of time. This was how and when I realized there was something far more interesting going on in the city, in the form of brutal hardcore, speedcore, and most notably breakcore.

Through all of this, the people putting on the Darkrave events managed to get the fetish night regulars to turn up for these parties, sort of an effort to prove that the mostly hideous and personality-deprived PVC set actually weren't stuck in the 90s like Velvet. Ok yeah, there were a lot of hot chicks, and some cool people would attend, but they were mostly at Resistor anyways. Darkrave got the crowds of kids who still liked alternative music and a few sketchy kids who missed the rave phenomenon or just really wanted a place to do drugs.

Altered Beats was a nightly thing at Nasa for a while and focused on abstract hip hop until they realized that their night was wack. Now I'm just bowled over looking at this CAPS LOCK post about how these guys know anything about cool other than landing really late on the scene and trying to flex promoter muscle in the same old set.

It's a rave flyer, with the old kitsch, it's a fucking pajama party and I know one bottomtoothed person and a long-haired con artist who will love that, but well, it's a bit late for this isn't it? That scene expired in Toronto circa 2001 and the only attendees they'll get are poser kids and flakey pervs from the fetish nights.

What a fucking mess.

If you're into synergy, kids, you'll want to try:

2CB + Acid + MDMA + Salvia divinorum; where you take the MDMA first, 2CB after the onset (about 2 hours), wait for the peak, drop the acid then, let that go crazy, then hit the Salvia at the time it feels right afterwards. When you've peaked you start to have remnants of the 2CB web and Salvia interdimensional weirdness and any dissociative (nitrous works best) will give you a boost of hallucinations and complex revelations. I worked for Italians at a fish market in Jean Talon just recently. They not only weaseled me out of an hourly rate by asking me what I wanted per week, but kept asking for more. I got $500 gross for 50-60 hour work weeks, paid by week but still a rip-off considering that my daily activities consisted of:

- Having to be there for opening and closing of the store (10-12 hour days) then being asked to do extra work on top of it, for no increase in pay
- Having to play the "pass-the-bill" game (my sister does that, no actually it's my other sister you have to talk to, no it's actually the first guy you talked to's job, etc.) every time I wanted to inquire about whether or not my hours were actually being tolled, even though I had to punch in every day for every break
- Having to thoroughly clean the deep fryers every morning
- Having to work every rush on that fryer, most of the time alone, for less than $12 an hour to remind you
- Being expected to come in on Monday to clean up the whole section I worked in while everybody else got to slack off and just sell fish
- Being demanded to take on a chef's role and organize that whole section at that shit rate, and then having my entire idea shot down every time because the other workers "didn't do it that way last year"
- It was a fish shop, so yeah, fishy smells, grease and oil on my clothes, flour on my shoes, no uniforms...

And we had mice, and the manager was such a fucking elderly flake psych patient she would start screaming and make everybody hunt the damn thing down for hours while she would stand on a chair freaking out. Anyways, Ramsay would have had that place shut down in a hurry. It was an embarrassment going into that sort of stupidly-managed shit after years as line and garde-mangé cook.
