I don't know if it helps you in "debugging" the connection procedure, but I'm logging from 2 places, both with Firefox: one is on W2K Pro and the other is on the GNU/Linux Fedora Core 6 distribution.

also, even from the same IP address, they still log each other out

And also, "keeps alive" works when changing IP (I moved my laptop and I didn't need to re-log :) )

ok it keeps you logged on the same computer, but as soon as you log on another computer, you still have to re-log in :)

was it a cheap model, or rather middle/high range of price?
I still think that some companies (including HP, Acer, Toshiba) use a very, very different quality of electronic components in their lower-level models and in their middle/high-level ones... I think you can get very good (even long-lasting?) HP laptops, but you really need to aim for higher-level models to be lucky to avoid problems :)



The thing is I think that IBM doesn't have such horror stories, from what I gathered so far. Maybe some other companies don't either (such as the Panasonic or Flybook that Neko mentioned), but they're really more expensive; I'm not saying that they're not worth their price, only that it's too much for me :)

Actually I've set my choice for the new cheapest Thinkpad line (SLxxx), which makes this great and famous IBM model affordable.

I thought about having it sent to me in France, but it's really too expensive and troublesome (customs, etc.). So I'll wait until I'm in MTL to get it, and in 2 months the prices might even get better (which could make me consider other better laptops).

Most friends' laptops I've had to repair had the same kind of problem: short circuits, static electricity, etc. Most of the time I only had to clean the inside and to unplug/replug the RAM.

Sometimes there had been a shock, with some broken plastic bits freely wandering in the case, and after this RAM unplug/replug thing, it worked again :)
