you're generalizing vanity to all french people. well you can. almost. well. i don't know.

stop signs read STOP because :
1) it's a greek/latin root, like the main part of french vocabulary
2) it's shorter to read when you actually have to stop (would it be an emergency of just that you're drunk)
3) since 2) then you can write it bigger :)
4) it's like in english thus it sounds so cooooooool :)

heh
I guess he original idea is quite good, though lacking some precision concerning money : who and how many people should give, and how much, and would there be a sort of accountance keeping... or opposite, would it be a totally anarchist/libertarian zone promoting equality/fairness, such as Freecycle/BECS-SEL/Jeu-Game ? Or would it be a mix of both ?

Anyway I'm not able to help financially, but I would probably be glad to lend a hand, or even to participate actively.

i'd rather say...

a) any form of authority, at any level, is apprehensive about unknown things (like human's instinct, as authorities are gatherings of humans)
b) the protest wasn't organized by the internet but was just a group of people who were settling at and/or going to the rave
c) the french people has always spoken its mind in the streets (or at least, significantly since 1789), and it's not something which is looking like it's gonna change soon

flo
Coolness: 147000
don't be so naive...
there's no riots here because rioting is part of the french way of life, and mainly because raves have nothing to do here and in france... different spirits, different music, different atmospheres, different uses, etc...
and never believe the estimations made by french authorities ! moreover, never believe media reports about anything about ravers in france... i've never seen one which was accurate.

the main problem about raves in france is that authorities are always freaking out, because they don't understand anything to raves in france... so because of their unjustified fear, they try to use force, and we just don't let that happen anytime. but then, so many french ravers are immature and irresponsible, that it turns out for the media to be a violently destroying and dangerous riot :S

hmmm i guess we're coming to one of the most existential problem of most people : believing that a lack, as huge and painful it could be, is the same thing as void...

when you look to what you have instead of looking to what you lack (that you formerly had or that you wish to have), you look to positive things instead of negative ones... and your mood follows by :)

abstraction is still something, even if you might not touch it.
and loneliness is far from being nothing, for at least 2 reasons :
1) as you said, it's a feeling, so it's a nonempty thing
2) even when you're alone you still do have yourself, which is an important thing (or many things, according to how you look at it)

an empty set is definable but is actually nothing.

but the generality of the "something" term applies to ANYthing, which includes everything and nothing ; thus nothing is something.

and in the end i agree :)

it may be true but there are so many other parameters... i'm not really directly concerned since i'm not canadian, i don't have a sufficient grasp on the situation, i'm not pro- nor con-separatists, but... you have to ponder so many things before making your decision !
