as Neuromyth said it's a chat and file sharing program, but it's rather basically a phone-on-internet software. provided you've got a mike and speakers, you can speak for free with anybody having skype+mike+speakers.
there's also a phone number service so that you can buy a number and use your computer like a phone (but muuuuuch cheaper) ; but this feature isn't available for canada yet.

for the phone part, google talk does the same, like many other programs

as for the raves and all, i've been living in montreal for a little more than 2 months and i find it amazing everyday... so many things to do, you can have at least a party like you want it once a week, and there's stuff to do everyday if you're bored... (but my problem now is more that i don't spend enough time working)

and [ rave.ca ] is a really nice and useful and magical website :)

non-positive music doesn't imply that it makes you feel bad...

try The Third Eye Foundation, or Dälek... it's electronic, but it's reaaaaaaally dark and negative (and makes me feel good though)
