I was in the library at Concordia downtown and there's a big screen tv near the entrance and it was showing people running around in an area I thought looked familiar. I said Live from Montreal and I continued on my way. Outside there was a lot of traffic, more than usual for that time of day. Obviously metro was closed so I took the 165 home but damn what a ride. People were crying and praying. I didn't even know what to think since I didn't have details but now I'm just sitting here worried.

When it comes down to it, we all know someone that goes to Dawson and you just can't help but think, were they one of the ones to get shot?

I guess I'm a bit biased since I've been living there my whole life but Cote des neiges will have to be my pick.

However while Ahuntsic is a bit out of the way, I really like the area, especially for the nice walks that you can take near the river.

I missed like half the party but for the time I was there I had an awesome time and everything went way beyond my expectations. Congrats on a job well done Julien, Jacynthe and everyone else who helped.

Ah Eurobeat, the one genre I can think of that is cheesier than Happy Hardcore yet so different =P

For general info on Eurobeat this site is the best. The history section gives a really good overview (much better than wiki's) and most importantly, in that section exaplins the differences between EUROBEAT and EURODANCE (which many people seem to confuse despite the different names). Also if you wander into the forums you'll proabably get confused with what anyone is talking about.

Well that's the thing, Eurobeat is really hard to mix just because the songs usually start right away and each intro has a completely different synth line that rarely mix into each other. If you were to mix Eurobeat you would have to be extremely highly proficient at mixing, or know how to mix using computers well. Not to mention to get the vinyls that have the extended versions of songs are very hard (and very expensive) to come by.

All that said, Francis doesn't have that many Eurobeat vinyls, and the extended versions he does have on mp3 are usually low quality that wouldn't work for mixing. The onyl way I could see him mixing Eurobeat at a party is if he chose a set in advance and mixed it to death to know exactly what to do when and where. So I'm not saying he couldn't do it, just that it would take a lot more time and effort to prepare for a Eurobeat set than it would for a usual Happy Hardcore set.

Apart form that, I might put this Eurobeat definition on my page since people consistently mistake Eurobeat for Eurodance ;P

In all seriousness, I think that the main problem here are the stereotypes. If I'm in the metro and I see a bunch of black thugged out thugs and a group of white boys I honestly tend to feel safer being around the white people REGARDLESS of the fact that I'm black myself. The ONLY reason is because of the stereotype that the black people are more dangerous when the last few years have taught me the opposite.

This isn't to say that one nationality/skin color/culture is safer than the other but it's just the stereotypes and prejudices that have been ingrained in our psyches.

Honestly no matter where you are and who you're with ypu have an equal chance of being in trouble regardless of the crowd's skin color.

You guys pretty much all said it. I personally think it's just because it's not their kind of music. My family can't STAND any form of electonic music I listen to. Yes they tend to warm up more to Jungle and what have you, but that's about it.

Unfortunately, a lot of people just have that mentality that certain things belong to certain people. In other words, the second you start listening to something other than the stereotypical 'black genres' they look at you funny. I've had to deal with that for years not to mention talk about 'turning my back on my culture' and what not.

So overall, why are there next to no black ravers? Because it's simply not their thing, and if it is, they're just worried about what their peers would say. At least that's what I think from what I've seen.

I wake up a black man every morning so don't think you're too special =P

I'm glad you found your cat Keith, and be happy you don't live where I do in Cote Des Neiges. There's freaking cats EVERYWHERE. A good majority of them are stray and they fight all the time, every night, make lots of noise and when they're in heat, can you say cat orgy? Seriously, my neighborhood has a serious cat problem lol

At least you don't have to worry about your cat being knocked up ;P

For me this was the best Nostalgia to date and I have to say it completely exceeded my expectations. I had too much fun if that's even possible.
