This Thursday July 21 Saphir's Mix Thursday proudly presents: Sean Kosa, Keph, Poontz and Axionfigga.. see below for artist info/bio mix thursdays on the top floor @ saphir, 3699 st-laurent. 2-for-1 beers and free before midnight 80s night rages on downstairs, admission grants access to both floors -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sean Kosa (turbo recordings / lipstick music / white leather)... Sean began his sonic adventures in the womb, his mother a classically trained singer, was an active musician before and after his birth. His parents noticed his own obvious gift at a young age when, at just three months, his first words were actually the chorus of Ave Maria, sung with perfect intonation, timbre and pitch. In the words of his mother,"I was stunned!" Fast forward fifteen years; Sean is standing in front of his first amplifier holding a white Fender Stratocaster, a tidal wave of distortion and feedback cascading from the speaker. In a revelation that would forever change Sean's outlook on music he declared, "I am going electric." After playing in Toronto for the next five years he had felt that he was hitting a wall creatively and spiritually. But something special would soon emerge from the grey morass of Toronto pawn shops that would once again revitalise Sean's interest and faith in music. Working in a Scarborough heavy machine factory had allowed him to begin building a rudimentary studio in his parents basement. His purchase of a sampler/sequencer and analog synth was integral to his new vision for sound and composition. Although his sequenced drum patterns made him a pariah amongst his old friends and bandmates he stayed strong,"I don't care if you think it sounds gay," was his famous retort, "it became almost a mantra," said friend and ex-bandmate Mike Milosh. Because of this clausterphobic climate of non-acceptance that surrounded him, Sean left Toronto for Montreal in what some friends would later call, "his self-imposed period of exile.". This so-called exile would prove to be a very fruitful time for Sean. As he would put it, "beer is my monastery," and what a monastery it was! Only three years after arriving in Montreal he began working in the online gaming industry, doing various tasks such as sound design, voice overs, song composition and loop creation. Although exciting at first, Sean quickly grew weary of, as he would so often put it, "smoking the big corporate hog." The only way for Sean to stay sane was to focus on his own material, his D.J. work, his tone poems for modern dance choreographers, and his short lived fashion show sound treatments. Then, without warning, the dot com crash came and Sean was one of it's worst casualties, stripped of the financial success of his embryonic career he took a good look in the mirror, stuck his chin up and said, "I shall now create souvlaki." After a year of rolling pita Sean came to his senses, assembled some of his most beloved tracks on a CD and sent out a bunch of demo's. Then one day the phone rang, "Hello, it's Tiga, is Sean there?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- mix thursdays on the top floor @ saphir, 3699 st-laurent. 2-for-1 beers and free before midnight 80s night rages on downstairs, admission grants access to both floors Mix Thursday is a joint venture involving members from: [ kirk6.com ] frogland breakers in Da Jungle no commercial value (NCV) [ montrealelectro.com ] beat concierge drunken midget turbo music alien crew uk514 level 4 productions kops crew broken crew white leather musique risquee global mastermindz (GMU) [ droyd.com ] DNA records [ mtldnb.com ] ... and much more |

umm ya, i hate simple minded idiots like Scott Philip who think that THEY ALONE determine what the definition of a word is. sorry buds, the english lexicon is a constantly morphing organism that responds equally to idiots and geniuses alike, whenever they ascribe meaning to a particular utterance in communication with other humans. you are a fucking elitist dumbass and should be shot. in the face. technotronic IS techno. to some people. just cause you disagree with them doesn't make you right. in fact, by hating them, you are less than them, YOU are the problem. therefore, i hate you. by doing so, i am helping to solve this dilemma and bring the words, their definitions, and the whole body of language, back into the hands of the common people. long live the proletariat. die fascist laptop nerds. |

(you shook me remix fucking OWNED)... passed the shit onto his tour manager around 2 oclock, shit got really weak, dome style. all in all an amazing night.. highlights included seeing mark belson dancing on the fucking speaker, and afterwards, sitting outside, miles is all fucked up and turns to kafwin and says "i'm totally belson".. and mark belson was like "what the fuck did you just say?" and miles was like "aaah nothing man, it's an inside joke. belson, just means i'm fucked up", having NO idea that he was talking to THE mark belson, the mark belson from where the term is derived... even after explaining that he WAS mark belson, miles didn't get it, cause for him, it's just an expression that he heard from montrealers i guess.. fucking hilarious shit. |

CANADA DAY EXTRAVAGANZA!!!! THURSDAY JUNE 30th @ SAPHIR UPSTAIRS featuring.... TIMOTHY WISDOM [ www.timothywisdom.com ] - Vancouver, BC STEVE BEAUPRE (aka Appleseed, one half of Crackhaus), Musique Risquee A-ROCK KILL WHITEY (kops crew) SYRINX will be a mad night going from dnb to electro, 2step, breaks, techno and weird retarded 80s kitsch shit... guaranteed to be fucked no cover and 2-for-1 beers before midnight UPSTAIRS @ saphir 3699 st-laurent info about mr. timothy "turntable wizard" wisdom... Slicing Timothy eating his lunch up the funkiest selection of breaks and beats for over a decade, Timothy Wisdom is the instigator of fun. He’s been blowing up dance floors from Vancouver’s Sonar and Club 23 night clubs to the notorious Atomic in Ottawa and even Calio’s in St. John’s - where he was a headliner and founder of the Atlantic Canada dance movement some 13 years ago. In ’91, he was programming drum machines, making samples, scratching records and dropping lyrics in the hip-hop group Heretic. By ’95 he was riding the East Coast trance movement playing in Halifax’s Marquee Club. By ’98 he was gaining international exposure while hosting the show, “Beat Fusion”, on the most-listened-to Internet radio station in the world. By 2000 Timothy Wisdom had spanned across Canada and was rocking funky house, bass heavy breaks and jungle in Vancouver’s underground warehouse scene. Combining the tricks of turntablism into his performance, he went on to win the scratch DJ competition at InQuest in 2003. His record crates know no boundaries and wherever he goes, Timothy Wisdom gets the movement moving. Hell Ya! In 2001 Timothy Wisdom created the first digital force feedback turntable, D’Groove, earning him a Masters degree. An engineer at the decks and on the mic, Timothy is a master of his artform, legendary for his crazy scratching, instant remixes, and hilarious antics. He teaches kids the art of turntablism, instilling in them the same passion he has for the craft. Now affiliated with Vancouver’s underground Tribal Harmonix Collective, he plays warehouses, outdoor parties, and clubs with equal vigour, sharing the spotlight with locals like Jacob Cino and the Third Eye Tribe, the Wasabi Collective, DJ’s Czech & Vinyl Ritchie (Vancouver) and Eastern artists like the Ebony & Ivory Sound Crew (Ottawa), DJ Deko-ze (Toronto) and the Telefunk Sound System (Toronto). Steve Beaupre (musique risquee) Steve Beaupre has been active on the Montreal scene for more than ten years. Having cut his teeth in his youth as an events organizer in Ottawa, he now has several discs to his credit, whether under his own name or as a member of Crackhaus with his friend, Deadbeat. Seduced by the particular sonorous rhythms and textures of house and techno music, a connoisseur of tenacious music, simultaneously technological and organic, Steve Beaupre seeks to install an atmosphere where lightness and humour intertwine, with a small sample of both disorganization and palpitation. His compositions belong to a disconnected house style tinged with the vitality of techno; a certain narration guides his pieces, despite the any sharp changes in their arrangement. The excitable rhythms and heavy bass lines support the melodies emerging from the strangest of sources. |

i actually like picnic, it's a cool concept, etc... but what really pisses me off is to see so many people there dancing and enjoying themselves.. where are all these people at other techno events? where are these people at underground events? minimal techno stuff is IMPOSSIBLE to do in montreal... except for certain promoters who have succeeded.. (and good for them, dont get me wrong) .. i just get the feeling sometimes at picnic electronique that these people dont give a fuck about the music, they dont even know what they are listening to... still, support, positivity, if people learn from picnic what techno and minimal techno is, then all the better (even if they need some gay shit to get them into it heheh) |

first of all sorry to anyone that i talked to saturday night, i had a rough day, weekend, thursday, friday and all day saturday spent drinking heavily in the sun, by the time i got to EChurch i was completely burned out, barely able to stay awake. the vibe was good, the setup was really amazing, a great effort went into this event, mad props as always to noah and all those that helped. on the point of security, security is allowed to refuse anyone entry to the club, it's a private business establishment. they dont have to let you in if they dont want to, period.,.. if you wanna enter you play by their rules.. although a male bouncer is not supposed to touch a female's special parts, and vice versa.. that's about it. they searched my record bag also (first time ever, that i can recall).. but whatever, i don't blame them, since it's the easiest thing for a DJ to smuggle shit into clubs for friends.. other than that, i must say i was cursed somehow, there was bass feedback while i was playing and it totally ruined my mood and my set, still enjoyed exposing people to some old school acid shit.., it always takes me back to hear wink and emmanuel top. first renegade legion party i ever played was spread the word and i walso played an olds school acid set there, so ya. i heard na a bit (was SICK), clown, corey k, slammer virus, toltech, tipsy t and i saw that in the main room nobody had any problems with feedback..ii dont know if it continued after i left but i think it was just some sort of hex put on me, karma getting me back for not sleeping enough... dayyyummmmm. slept for 3 hours after the party then worked all day today.. am still awake. must go to sleep. ps girl that took like a million photos of me giving her the middle finger, wtf? post them shits |

thanks for all your kind words dudes but fuck its just a hundred bucks. i would fight it and ask them to prove, etc, etc, but i think for all the time it would take, and for all the attention it may cause, i'd rather just pay and deal. i can make a hundred bucks faster than the time it would take to deal with this through the fucking courts. postering = more fines, always, in my experience and yes usually the rule for flyering is that you have to get caught red handed, it just appears that things have changed, so i guess i'm trying to say be careful, or budget for some unexpected costs people... it's easy to find me ya, through the site (hell my home phone # is on the flyer) but it still seems a stretch to just assume that it was me personally to blame for the flyering. thanks for the tips also doc and simon... dont worry guys i'll survive hehehehe, we made it through a 6200$ fine for 2k4, this is nothing! |

If cocksuckers were really like patriotic good-ass Canadians, do you think they'd call their company AMERICAN apparel? the owner of this company should be dragged out of his scurvy infested gloryhole room, injected with bubonic plague, locked in an airtight capsule, then buried somewhere in the desert. put a camera in there and then we'll see whose makin some serious extortion coin you cocksucker. hey, one love niggaz. |

yo ya that was one of the sickest live PA's i ever heard, my buddy Freebass was equaally impressed.. really happy to hear macabre slow it up a couple of times, and crunch out some 130 bpm hardcore shit, fuck that was ill. his set was flat out brutal, no concessions.. SICK. other than that, ya, i felt the party was really well done. the deco in the main was perfect, so fucking dark while macabre and iz after played, minimal evil lighting, amazing visuals. the 2nd room's sound was way distorted but whatever it's a fuckling hardcore party, it was perfect. i also agree the setup in the 2nd room was far superior, anyone else throwing parties at gravity should set it up like that (dj booth in the back of the room instead of on your right when you walk in).. lastly, it was a MASSIVE honour for level 4 to have had a chance to represent, Sarcastic playing a 3 hour tag with iznogood was just a crazy experience, very messy, but very fucking fun, something that must be done again. never in my life have i ever been involved in such a retarded set heheh, war by low rider, black sabbath playing backwards at the wrong speed, classic rave anthems, distorted fucking hardcore, DnB, all sorts of shit played at retarded speeds, wow. that was fun. all in all i had an amazing night. imx til deth. |
