imo Miami Bass was the style popularized by arthur baker (father of the 808) n then mainstreamized by 2 live crew.. through the years and changing influences booty has become the modern equivalent. miami bass is to booty as trance is to psy-tek. or something. or as jungle is to DnB. if that makes any sense.

wow...

that was a fucking magical night. thanks to all the DJs that played fucking AMAZING sets. unfortunately AD showed up with a horrible case of tonsilitis or some such fever raging through his devastated body. we sent him off to the emergency room with happy birthdays and hopefully he'll be better soon n live to play at mix one day in the future.

of course the biggest hugest props and hugs go out to luc aka indica aka b weiser, played a err unique set w/ final scratch, playing some crazy edits and remixes (rage against the machine what?!?!?), a really heavy emotional moment. the last night he's able to drink and his last set and night out before intensive chemotherapy this weekend, i wish him the best of luck and knowing the soldier that he is, he's gonna pull through in fine shape. we're already planning his comeback gig @ saphir :)

thanks of course to all that showed and danced their mad asses off, lots of new faces out last night which is always good to see.. thanks everyone :!! )

Luc has always impressed me as a DJ, he's hard to the core as a guy in general (meaning mad love never ends) and has a special place in my heart for the sick set he closed Flux with in May 2003 (after playing TWO other parties the same night) what a warrior.

last night i had a dream that arthur started beating on nter , we were outside in the snow, what started as a snow kinda christmas fight quickly became a brutal bludgeoning, but then nter pulled out a gun and started shooting, then i got hit in the hand, looked at my hand and saw right through it. i saw the bloody snow on the other side. that's all i remember.

later in the night. or earlier, i had a dream about some big country rock dude at saphir arguing cause we were giving him the wrong kind of drinks, he had agreed to play for a specific drink which we couldn't provide. or something. perhaps influenced by the fact that i fell asleep with 456 country songs on shuffle in winamp

first of all, i had TOTALLY forgot that I started this thread until late last night as I was falling asleep, cool.

Secondly, i just vaguely remembered my dreams last night and this morning so I should write it now before I forgot. I remember thinking as i was waking up that I was having a recurring dream, a flying dream (many dreams SEEM to be recurring dreams somehow, they give you this deja vu feeling.. but are they really recurring? I guess if i keep writing them here, I'll figure it out eventually).. but it's like, in my dream, I could just take off and kinda hover, kinda fly, but just by sort of jumping then floating. I think I have this dream a lot. I remember thinking to myself as I woke up that it wasn't really a dream, that I wasn't insane or imagining things, that in REAL life in REALITY, I could fly, and being kinda happy... but surely that must've been me fallign back asleep again slowly, and thinking this shit while I was mostly asleep; dreaming again. That's all I remember: thinking that me flying was possible in real life, and in fact it happened. Now, as I write this several hours later, I realize that I was mistaken. too bad.

i just woke up from this fucked up recurring dream, i think it happened so many times i was convinced it was real, every time i woke up then went back to sleep, it was still going. for some reason jack threw electronic high at mix thursdays but saphir was this massive complex with all these rooms, and there were two huge rooms upstairs somewhere where Metallica played and this weird band that had the trippiest fucking set up with these floating heads and shit, they were supposed to be like a bigtime electro live act or something. i remember they had a name in my dream but probably it was something that doesn't exist in reality anyways. meanwhile there was this affiliated party in the UK and people were going back and forth on boats or planes or shit, but they were just saying "across the river" and nter DJed in the UK twice, and I was super pissed at him and jealous, but I got to play in the same room as Metallica and i kept telling everyone "METALLICA PLAYED AT MIX THURSDAY!!!" ... then I realized that it was december 25th and that I hadn't bought any xmas presents and I totally flipped on everyone, telling all my friends i fucking hated them and what's the goddamned point of anything and why the fuck is anyone doing what they're doing and aaaaarrrgh and veryone was just lookin at me like i was a total psycho. around there, i think i woke up and was like "whew," it's only dec 16th, and i guess it ain't all that bad. but wow, that metallica shit was weird.

Timothy Wisdom, VANCOUVER, BC

Slicing up the funkiest selection of breaks and beats for over a decade, Timothy Wisdom is the instigator of fun. He’s been blowing up dance floors from Vancouver’s Sonar and Club 23 night clubs to the notorious Atomic in Ottawa and even Calio’s in St. John’s - where he was a headliner and founder of the Atlantic Canada dance movement some 13 years ago. In ’91, he was programming drum machines, making samples, scratching records and dropping lyrics in the hip-hop group Heretic. By ’95 he was riding the East Coast trance movement playing in Halifax’s Marquee Club. By ’98 he was gaining international exposure while hosting the show, “Beat Fusion”, on the most-listened-to Internet radio station in the world. By 2000 Timothy Wisdom had spanned across Canada and was rocking funky house, bass heavy breaks and jungle in Vancouver’s underground warehouse scene. Combining the tricks of turntablism into his performance, he went on to win the scratch DJ competition at InQuest in 2003. His record crates know no boundaries and wherever he goes, Timothy Wisdom gets the movement moving.

In 2001 Timothy Wisdom created the first digital force feedback turntable, D’Groove, earning him a Masters degree. An engineer at the decks and on the mic, Timothy is a master of his artform, legendary for his crazy scratching, instant remixes, and hilarious antics. He teaches kids the art of turntablism, instilling in them the same passion he has for the craft. Now affiliated with Vancouver’s underground Tribal Harmonix Collective, he plays warehouses, outdoor parties, and clubs with equal vigour, sharing the spotlight with locals like Jacob Cino and the Third Eye Tribe, the Wasabi Collective, DJ’s Czech & Vinyl Ritchie (Vancouver) and Eastern artists like the Ebony & Ivory Sound Crew (Ottawa), DJ Deko-ze (Toronto) and the Telefunk Sound System (Toronto).

“tasteful scratching and one of the few DJs who can casually mix records in seconds”
– DJ Jacob Cino (Third Eye Tribe)

“He puts so much exhilaration into his sets…slaying audiences”
– DJ Ronin (Native State Records, Episode 13)

“for me the absolute highpoint was [his] one turntable set. The way that man kept the energy stoked in the room was truly amazing. And freestyling no less. Just amazing!!!…Timothy Wisdom is a genius!”
– Michael Ki, co-creator of Intention V [where Timothy covered for a failed turntable and rocked a room of 200 people with just one deck and a mic]

“[Timothy] makes totally cool technology”
– The Discovery Channel

Timothy Wisdom’s science on the turntables is astounding. His ability to captivate audiences is so diverse that he really puts on a performance: crossing beats from countless genres, scratching over perfect mix sets, hitting the mic with rhymes and crowd hype and making the room explode. Just when you think the party can’t get any better, Timothy Wisdom will get the place roaring. [ www.timothywisdom.com ]

setup, sound, organization everything was excellent, thanks Kaotik and Guillaume for all your hard work.. personally for me both floors were TOO loud once again, but that's always the best complaint you can hear. Terrorfakt fucking PWNED, amazing set, seemed that he was actually doing a lot of drum patterns and synth noises live, but i was really psyched to hear adam x, and in all honesty i have nothing good to say about his performance. no offence to the promoters, a great choice to bring him to an industrial party, a bit of a different flavour, but i thought that for his live he DEFINITELY could've played more hardcore/industrial shit, i know he's made it, especially for the first part of it, kinda killed the crowd. After bringing back some peeps, he went on to start his DJ set, right after, with more wackness, killing the floor once again. I've never heard anyone trainwreck using Ableton Live before, but Adam did it, and did it even better while DJing. in fact, for a guy with his experience and obvious production skills (as well as DJ skills, i've seen this guy play 'decent' sets, not great sets, but i've seen him beatmatch before numerous time), i almost thought that he must be on another planet, SO HIGH on drugs that he has NO idea what's going on, or maybe he's trying to pioneer a new style where two beats play at different speeds and it sounds like shit. anyways, that's my honest opinion about Adam X. he sucks. other than that, again, a wicked party and really happy i got to discover some new artists and hear some wicked ones live terrorfakt!! this guy pwns.

yup around 300 people i'd say, very well attended, though ya, maybe some people dint stay out and party til dawn as i'm used to in the "RAVE" scene heheheh.. but it was great to have tons of people out early (especially for me and rhys, we played til about 1:15 so had people listenin and dancing, thanks to all... :) )) good times, more of these parties PLEEEZ!!
